@nominalthoughts The optimal tax is income tax. Taxes literally take a portion of your income. Proxies are just a mess and many of them amount to giving ways to not pay taxes (e.g. consumption tax? Savings and investments, no taxes paid).

"How much tax do I pay?" Look at your paycheck. That's how much.

@GovWesMoore @TheMDTA If you raise income taxes by 0.2%, you won't need MTA boarding fees. I haven't done the math for eliminating tolls though; everybody making the decisions seems to like tolls because they externalize the costs to people out of state commuting to in-state work.

@sigmahamster2 Could always design a functional democratic system. Nobody's actually done that ever, or even come close—it's non-trivial and getting it slightly wrong causes it to become totally dysfunctional. Not as bad as EUV but it's bad, you can make it not work with small "simplification."

@SteveMatthews12 @MichaelSLinden I've never actually seen anyone give a competent suggestion as to how to deal with the superPAC issue because of that. The endpoint tends to go toward "I know it when I see it" which when dealing with law is how you get tyranny.

These donations go to independent organizations that aren't supposed to coordinate with candidates, which crosses over into the same behavior as gateway organizations that allow groups of low-income individuals to influence an election too.
