THE INFAMOUS “ AYESU ALIBE DEGREE” STORY
In 2014, at just 16 years old, I completed my MSCE with 16 points and thought my dream was finally taking off after securing a Turkish scholarship. Unfortunately, politics had other plans.
Determined to keep going, I started again at MCA in 2016, and by my second year, I had earned another scholarship to Sudan. Everything was on track until 2023, when war broke out during my 5th year(honours), forcing me to return home without the degree I had worked so hard for. While fleeing the conflict, I was even detained by the Sudanese Armed Forces after being mistaken for a South Sudanese soldier.
The war, the trauma, and the lives I saw lost could have easily made me give up. Instead, despite hearing the mockery of “A Yesu alibe degree,” and with encouragement from friends here on Twitter, I started over once again through mature entry at MUBAS in 2024.
Today at 28 years old, after 11 years of setbacks, closed doors, and starting over more than once, your boy is finally graduating. 😭🎓🙏
The journey was much longer than expected, but quitting was never an option. ❤️💪🏾🎓
Don't be misled folks: if you're in Secondary school/Uni, work hard and be excellent, it opens doors overcoming luck and connections. Even in the professional space, be excellent, stand out, I guarantee someone notices, and they speak your name in rooms you're not in. #LifeHack
🗣️ Bruno Fernandes: "I will never forget where I was when I was given the opportunity to come here four years ago. I was standing in the closet in our bedroom in Lisbon. My agent had rang me up around 10 o'clock at night, and my daughter was only three years old at the time, so that was bedtime for us. I went into the little closet to be quiet.
I always told my agent, during my whole career, "I never want to hear about any transfer until it's 100% real. I don't want to be distracted unless there is an offer."
So l knew if he was calling me at that hour, something was going on.
I shut the door and I said, "Miguel? Yeah?"
He said, "Are you ready to hear the news?"
I said, "About what?"
"About going."
"Going where? Spurs?"
"United."
"Are you joking?"
"No, no. I'm serious. United. It's done. It's just on you now. What do you want to do?"
I didn't even reply. I started fighting back tears.
But you know the feeling when you are trying to hold it in, so the other person doesn't realise you're crying, and you can't even speak?
He said, "Bruno? Bruno? Hello?"
At that moment, my wife, Ana, comes looking for me in the bedroom.
"Bruno??? Bruno???"
She opens the door.
"What's going on? Why are you in the closet?"
I said, "It's Miguel. He just called. He's saying United want me."
She said, "Wait...... Are you crying?"
I told her, "I don't know! I think it's happiness!"
