@howemill The breed society is partly at fault here as well. They actively market themselves as conservation grazers with little regard for the system or environment the cows are going into. Makes the breed look bad when they inevitably don't thrive!

@howemill @treesforlifeuk I heard a quote the other day that I feel is quite apt in these sort of scenarios; "Most humans are the only animal that doesn't think it's part of an ecosystem".
Most rewilding seems to be shut the gate and forget, not humans (& farming) working in harmony with nature.

If R4L is the ideal why isn't that paid the best?
Pretty much every breed has won a taste comp at some point, even JerseyX. Eating quality is very subjective.
If R4L is ideal then why have sucklers at all? You can do that from a self replacing BF dairy herd

@JanetHughes Reducing minimum spend and allowing bespoke systems would have allowed me to apply! I've fitted a fixed cattle handling system (not off the shelf so ineligible) and fitted crush weigh bars and a calving sensor (under £1000 combined) . But couldn't claim on any of it!!
