It’s interesting that when bad things happen in coastal liberal cities that’s held to be the fault of the local elected officials whereas when bad things happen in rural heartland areas that’s held to be the fault of urban coastal elites.
Remember that in the time since California started one high-speed rail line that will never be completed, China built this entire high-speed rail network from scratch:
Ending car-free Hayes Street on weekends is tragic & makes exactly zero sense.
Car-free Hayes Street has been a massive success — for businesses, residents & visitors. People love it.
Why on earth would the City get rid of it? https://t.co/71qazbIB0t
@mattdorsey@sfbos Yes, please to speed cameras. Speeding is an annoyance (seeing others break laws with no recourse) and danger (getting hit) that ought to be easy to tame.
@hknightsf@sfchronicle@nytimes You’re talented, committed , and write pieces that actually affect the arc and policies of the city. Thank you for all you’ve done, and will do.
Looking back, I suppose such a move was inevitable. :)
@bettersoma@TheMarinaTimes@Scott_Wiener I dunno - he’s prolific in filing bills and improving housing policy. It’s not everything - and for a single state senator he gets a LOT done. The homeless problem won’t abate without housing. Action of drugs also needed - I’d like to see more on that.
@bettersoma@HillaryRonen@christopherrufo Oy. Oy Oy Oy. Take responsibility @HillaryRonen , and stop it with the jabs at the ‘tech industry’ and Republicans. It plainly comes off as deflecting responsibility. Build housing, deal with the drugs on the street. It begins with taking personal responsibility getting here.
@Scott_Wiener Yesss! Please do. If we can’t have competition in utility space (and that is hard to do given the massive capital costs - big is often most cost-efficient) we need to set rules and service expectations.
Valencia street’s beauty and vibrancy is one of SF’s top examples of what’s-possible with urban living - let’s make it better for the density of walkers and bikers.!!
SFMTA’s center cycle track for Valencia puts:
👎🏻 Parking over People
👎🏻 Cars over Climate
👎🏻 Bad design over Business
@BetterValencia (curbside protected bike lanes) is:
❤️ Better for safety
🌎 Better for climate
🏪 Better for business

@jeffreytumlin Thank you for championing this.
It’s a slog, and I wish it were (much) faster. Hopefully we can remove the bureaucratic obstacle course MUNI deals with
@bettersoma Yeeesh, the bozos among us. Sorry you end up getting this. Thank you for asking publically for things to be different. What you share here on Twitter is important for ppl to see
Automated Speed Enforcement works. New York's new report on the program has made that absolutely clear.
There was a 73% reduction in speeding at sites with Automated Speed Enforcement cameras.
It's simple: California needs to pass ASE to save lives.

This is ridiculous.
San Francisco has real issues - like dirty streets - that the Department of Public Works should be focused on. Not this.

San Francisco needs to provide medical and mental health treatment to the untreated.
This isn't simply about housing.
We should stop using the word "homeless" to describe people who are severely mentally ill and addicted.
My essay in Sunday's @sfchronicle argues that CEQA reform depends on leadership from @CAgovernor & courts and gives examples of what they can do.
Some folks have asked what I'd prioritize on the legislative front. Here's a short 🧵 in response. 1/12
