@HancocksHalf@nicholadrummond Regarding your last sentence, it’s the opposite, Italy is training RAF pilots before they go to their Fighter OCUs. Italy have their own Phase4 training (M-346), Typhoon and F-35 OCUs.
#Leonardo’s #C27J#FireFighter integrates the Roll-On/Roll-Off second generation Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (#MAFFS II), enabling rapid conversion into a mission-ready firefighting aircraft in just 90 minutes. Equipped with a 7,500‑liter tank—compatible with both water and retardant—the system supports a high operational tempo, with ground refill times as low as 8 minutes and pressurisation cycles of around 5 minutes. Mission effectiveness is further enhanced through high‑precision, controlled drop performance, including:
✅ Up to 2 volume drops per sortie;
✅ Adjustable Ground Pattern Coverage levels up to GPC 8 (US Gallons Per 100 Square Feet);
✅ Release speeds of 125–130 knots at 150–200 ft;
✅ Selectable load splits for tailored effects.
These capabilities ensure accurate and consistent retardant distribution, maximising impact across varying fire intensities, terrain profiles and mission demands. With a deployment range of up to 2,100 NM and a 300 NM mission radius at full load, the C‑27J Fire Fighter delivers rapid reach, sustained operational endurance and flexibility. #AFFGlobal2026
From 24 to 26 March, #LeonardoAeronautics will participate in the 28th edition of the Aerial Fire fighting Global Conference & Exhibition 2026 in #Rome, Italy—bringing together international institutions, operators, and leading innovators.
This global forum plays a key role in advancing collaboration across the entire wildfire-response ecosystem. It connects decision-makers, operators, industry partners, and technology leaders to help shape the future of aerial #firefighting. At #Leonardo, we remain committed to delivering cutting-edge, mission-ready technologies that enhance operational effectiveness, safety, and long-term resilience in the face of increasingly complex environmental challenges. #AFFGlobal2026
#Leonardo’s #M346 aircraft brings pilots one step closer to combat readiness, thanks to its Integrated Training System (#ITS), which ensures a seamless transition to next-generation fighters.
This advanced and immersive system integrates the M-346 with the Ground-Based Training System (#GBTS) and the Mission Support System (#MSS), combining simulators and real aircraft missions within a comprehensive Live-Virtual-Constructive (#LVC) training environment.
A real trainer jet. No compromises.
#Leonardo’s #M345 provides authentic jet handling experience and state-of-the art digital avionics, without simulated performance trade-offs.
The Polish Air Force’s #M346#Bielik(White-tailed Eagle) is revolutionising the way pilots are trained. By combining advanced simulation with real-flight operations, it enables a seamless transition from the classroom and simulator to modern combat aircraft.
As Brig. Gen. Pilot Waldemar Gołębiowskistated:
“The introduction of the M-346 aircraft meant a transition from a model based mainly on pilot training to an integrated system of preparing pilots to operate in the environment of modern combat aircraft.”
Col. Pilot Łukasz Piątek, Deputy Commander of the 4th Training Aviation Wing and experienced F‑16 pilot, emphasised: “The M-346 Bielik aircraft allows you to reduce training time on the F-16 aircraft thanks to its built-in advanced simulation system. It enables the simulation of medium- and short-range air-to-air weapons, a wide range of air-to-ground weapons, laser and GPS-guided bombs. Embedded Tactical Training System (ETTS) provides a simulation of the Radar Warning Receiver system. You can practically practice, train and improve in every aspect in which you perform tasks on the F-16 aircraft.”
With its integrated approach, the M‑346 Bielik prepares pilots more efficiently, ensuring readiness for complex missions while reducing training time and maximising operational effectiveness.

The #Leonardo’s #M346#aircraft stands at the core of #training for next‑generation fighter pilots.
Designed to deliver unmatched training effectiveness, it provides full mission realism as part of #Leonardo’s Integrated Training System (#ITS), combining high‑fidelity #simulation, Live Virtual Constructive (#LVC) capabilities, and advanced avionics.
Thanks to the M‑346, Air Forces can train pilots to seamlessly transition to front‑line fighters—enhancing readiness, reducing training costs, and ensuring operational excellence.
Today, #Leonardo is taking part in the ceremony marking the phase-out of the #T339A and the phase-in of the #T345A at the @ItalianAirForce’s Galatina Air Base (Lecce, Italy), home of the 61st Wing. During the event, we will showcase our digital training solutions for the T-345A.
