This is such a bad idea, it doesn't even compute in the universal vortex of good ideas.
Scenario:
@theSNP government loan you Β£10k to buy your first house,
'Bless the SNP and all their free things!' Says you...
It's a 2 bed and you and your boyfriend / girlfriend are happy making it a home. It was a meagre purchase, all that you couod afford as a young couple on the living wage. But then you get married and start a family...
You have 1 child, and you make do with your 2 bed for a while, but then another sproglet pops along. You need a bigger house and by this time, you've only paid back 5 years of the 25 year mortgage. (That's only interest on the loan, that you have paid in that time.)
You want to sell your 2 bed and look for something bigger, to accommodate your happy little family, living in this utopia of unicorns and free things.
So you market your 2 bed and you find a buyer pretty quickly, because they too have been bestowed such riches of socialist SNP... Β£10k (it's their first home) but you get pretty much the same as you paid for that 2 bed, because the property boom is well over and landlords have flooded the market rather than abide by SNP / Greens rent controls. Now you need to settle your mortgage and retain a deposit for the new place...
The SNP in it's infinite free things, take their Β£10k back, via your solicitor.
Ouch. Your mortgage isn't quite paid in full. In fact, it's Β£10k short.
And...
You now don't have enough of a deposit for the new place, so the mortgage needs to be another 25 years at the same or higher rate, and the SNP won't sub you another Β£10k, because you're already on the property ladder.
You're in a worse place than when you started off and if that 3 bed falls through. You end up with a family of 5, living in a 2 bed house, until you can hammer the overtime, enough to get a bigger mortgage, to cover that Β£10k loss.
Such a poorly thought out idea @KateC_SNP. I don't believe any of you cretinous MSP's have ever existed in the real world.
Β£77,711 per year is the only reason you strive to do, what you want to do. You are clueless. Absolutely without common sense and your policies prove it.
Statement from Colin McInnes, CEO of Homeless Project Scotland 7 October 2025
βToday, I am deeply disappointed and disgusted to have watched @theSNP and @scottishgreens councillors vote to reject permission for @hp_scotland Homeless Project Scotland βs night shelter a vital facility that provides warmth, safety, and dignity to those with nowhere else to turn.
This decision has left the homeless and vulnerable once again facing uncertainty and fear about their future. It is not enough that they have already endured sleepless nights worrying about where they will go now they must wait yet another year or more for the next planning application.
It is clear where the priorities of the SNP and Greens lie. On the second day of Challenge Poverty Week a week meant to highlight the fight against hardship those in power have chosen to reject a shelter and hot food service that exists to protect people from poverty, hunger, and cold.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Labour councillors who stood up for what is right today, who supported our facility fully and voted to approve. Your compassion and integrity shine through on a day when others turned their backs on the people of Glasgow.
What was even more shocking was how the meeting was closed with Councillor Ken Andrew saying, βLetβs go and get that lunch.β To end a meeting that determined the fate of homeless people in such an insensitive manner, on a week dedicated to tackling poverty, is nothing short of horrific. While people across this city struggle to eat or find a safe place to rest, that remark spoke volumes about the disconnect between decision-makers and those they are meant to serve.
To our incredible volunteers, our service users, and the members of the press who came out today thank you. You stood tall in the face of injustice, and your strength gives me hope.
I will keep fighting for you, for our service, and for every single person in need with every breath I have.β
