Working with AI is like being a very spoiled gf:
>What you can do is X, Y, or Z
>Can you please do X,Y, or Z🥺👉🏼👈🏼
>Ok, I will solve all your problems and also you’re absolutely right and amazing
>Yay 🥰🥰🥰
My first ever full time job (as an EA in Malibu) was extremely toxic but also felt really weird (despite lacking reference) in ways I couldn’t figure out. Within three months it got so bad that I would have terrible stomach aches every time I was there. Everyone was telling me that I was being dramatic or just didn’t want to work. I ended up quitting anyways and just walking out one day. A little over a week later I met with a former colleague and we discussed concerns we had and what to do. He then drove to a late shift and found a client dead at the scene. While working with the victims legal team I found out that my former bosses had stolen millions of dollars from that client over the span of days, starting the day before he died. They had then tried to steal another 20M and committed lots of other crimes along the way and were also suspected to be involved in the death. I later ended up working with the FBI and watched both of them get sentenced to 8+ and 18+ years last year. By that time the story was getting covered by every news outlet in the US and dozens of reporters were reaching out. I ended up speaking with a ny times reporter and one day woke up to the article being the cover story of Apple News and other sites. At this point producers started reaching out about documentaries they were working on and I realized that there may never be an end to reliving a very traumatic experience in ever new ways but that I did end up figuring it out mostly and learning a lot. Especially to trust your gut, even when it’s scary and most people don’t believe you.
a membrane is the first condition for selfhood, but permeability is the first condition for relation
every membrane is selectively permeable
the self is therefore neither sealed nor boundless, but continuously constituted through regulated exchange with the world
the key is in operating the boundary instead of breaking it as membranes that stop selecting dissolve the self and don’t transcend it
An investor asked me what I want my net worth to be a little while ago. I thought that is a really strange question because I don’t dream of a bank account number, I dream of coherent societal structures that instill trust into our environments. Seeking excessive wealth is an attempt to decouple from the dynamics of lived reality instead of changing them.
Love harder by letting more reality matter to you instead of by clinging harder, romanticizing or tolerating distortion. Love harder means care enough to see clearly, act honestly, and take responsibility for the effects of your care.
Love an idea harder by making it truer instead of defending it blindly.
Love a person harder by letting them be real instead of turning them into the role you need them to play.
Love your work harder by asking who it serves, what it costs, and what it could become if you didn’t shrinking it.
Love yourself harder by being honest about your motives, your fear, your needs, your tenderness and to where what you call love may actually be control, avoidance, vanity, hunger or self protection.
Love clarifies and makes more of reality visible. Anything that requires confusion, concealment or the erosion of another thing’s integrity is attachment, self interest or manipulation and just borrowing the language of love.
@__drewface I usually feel that way when I need to reconnect with myself. Giving myself permission to do that, whilst releasing the guilt or shame around withdrawing for a while, tends to make genuine connection with others possible again
