Excellent and brave article by @potooleifj gently flagging obstacles ahead for dairy expansion plans.

This looks to be a great opportunity for four undergrad students. I encourage all students to get work experience - mine greatly informed my choice of career direction @teagascforestry @ucd_forestry@StudyForestry@waterfordit
I have a problem with this headline.
ALDI didn't plant these trees, we did.
Cost of establishment & premium per hectare is roughly €12,000
Our taxes pay that.
WEP participants like Aldi/AnPost/CIE etc make a ONE OFF payment of €1000 per hectare and take ALL the credit.

Here is species breakdown for a 101ha of new woodland I have planned. SS = Sitka, SBi = Silver birch, OG = designed open ground, NBL = Native broadleaves (other than a crop of birch), OL = other land within the fence (ponds, mire etc), DF = Douglas fir, NS = Norway spruce.
@stopthespraybc@SaveKerry Total herbicide used in forestry in a year is less than 0.07% of the total used in Irish agriculture on arable crops alone. Interesting read on herbicide use in our state forests that account for 50% of all forested areas. Sometimes no chemical is used. https://t.co/C6baGwtd8u
