@mfmereu@LudwigAhgren Riot franchising has done so much damage, it’s insane.
Hope the short term gain was worth it on their end…. because it ruined the long term of LoL/VAL esports.

When Julius Caesar was 25, he was kidnapped by pirates. He acted like they worked for him. They demanded a ransom of 20 talents. Caesar laughed at them for not knowing who they had captured, and told them to ask for 50. He spent 38 days as their prisoner. When he wanted to sleep, he ordered them to stop talking. He wrote poems and speeches and read them out loud. When the pirates didn’t admire them, he called them illiterate barbarians. He often told them, laughing, that he would come back and execute them all. They thought he was joking. As soon as the ransom was paid, he raised a fleet, hunted them down and had every one of them crucified, exactly as he had promised.
In 1806, after defeating Prussia, Napoleon visited the palace of Frederick the Great, a king he had admired since childhood. Standing before Frederick’s tomb, he reportedly removed his hat and said, “Gentlemen, if he were alive, I would not be here.” to his marshalls
And On his final exile at St Helena, when he was asked why didn't he take Frederick the Great's sword when he had visited Sans Souci, he replied,'Because I had my own.'
@mintchoco543@TheDunkCentral@WindhorstESPN@TheNBABase It's literally history, not just "politics"
Seattle lost the Sonics in 2008 largely because the city and ownership couldn't agree on an arena deal. Nearly 20 years later, we're seeing the same reluctance to work with professional sports franchises. History is repeating itself.
I never said they should. Classic Twitter moment.
My point is that other cities WILL offer tax breaks and incentives to attract professional sports teams, whether you agree with it or not. There's a reason the Giants play in New Jersey, and there's a reason the Bears are looking outside Chicago for their next stadium.
