@HDFC_Bank@HomeLoansByHDFC@HDFCBank_Cares I've been trying to get a joint home loan despite both applicants having strong credit scores, but the process has been marked by repeated delays, misdirected emails, and a sanction letter that's been "pending" for weeks with no clear timeline. Requesting an urgent resolution as my advance with developer might get forfeited. DM open.
After landing in China, the first thing I noticed at hotel check-in was a fire escape hood and a fire blanket.
The hood filters smoke and toxic carbon monoxide (the real killer in most fires), buying you minutes to escape.
The blanket smothers small flames and shields you from heat.
Simple, low-cost, life-saving.
Both grab-and-go, no training needed.
Neither replaces alarms, sprinklers, and clear exits.
With fire incidents rising, this is the kind of affordable intervention which could be adopted widely in hotels, offices, and homes.
Sometimes safety isn't the biggest system. It's the simplest thing being within arm's reach, when seconds matter.
The Indian government should stop subsidies for families with more than 2 children from a fixed future date, say 2028.
Existing families unaffected.
Families can have as many children as they want as long as they can provide for them.
India needs to urgently ramp up its R&D, Education and Infrastructure budgets if it has to provide quality of life to its 1.5 billion people.
The government needs to go into mission mode. Tech capabilities, manufacturing, AI infrastructure, clean air, water etc.
Look at the numbers.
Union Budget 2025-26: Subsidies: $45 billion. MGNREGS + welfare: another $21 billion.
Education: $13 billion. R&D: $3.2 billion.
India spends 14 times more on subsidies than on R&D. 3 times more on subsidies than on educating the next generation. Other subsidies cannot be decreased without reducing consumption or making population self-reliant.
China, Korea, Taiwan all made the same choice 30 years ago. They redirected state capital from immediate welfare into long-term tech and manufacturing capability. India has not.
The savings from a two-child subsidy cap could double India's R&D budget, fund world-class education, build serious manufacturing.
The window for the demographic dividend is shrinking fast. @PMOIndia@narendramodi

& how this number indicates that AI is killing India's middle class.
India's top 5 IT companies hired just 17 net employees in nine months from April-December 2025.
Not 17,000. Seventeen.
Same period last year, they hired nearly 18,000.
For 20 years, India's middle class was built on one thing - IT services. Five to Six million jobs. The homes, the cars, the foreign trips, all funded by these salaries.
But the important part - AI doesn't generally replace the senior who knows what question to ask. It replaces the junior whose job was to find the answer. The entry level. The first rung. The job you do for five years before you become good at judgement.
Big Four firms, investment banks, IT giants - they're all cutting the bottom. TCS laid off 12,000 last year. Fresher hiring is down 30%.
If you're a CA, an analyst, a fresher, this is the most important shift of the decade.
The Indian middle class was built on jobs, AI is making obsolete.

Jane Street has 1% of JPMorgan’s employees.
But made more revenue in 2025.
Their business model is simple:
make tiny profits on millions of trades every day using speed, math, and massive capital.
On modern Wall Street, scale isn’t about headcount anymore.
It’s about algorithms and liquidity.

Do you really think No Cost EMI is No Cost?
1 in 4 purchases during Amazon Prime Day in India were on EMI.
9 out of 10 of those... were "No Cost EMI."
Take that ₹1.2 lakh iPhone someone bought "interest-free" last week.
They didn't pay zero interest.
They paid 4 hidden costs.
The bank is charging interest. It has to. It is a loan.
The seller gives you an "instant discount" equal to that interest. So the EMI looks free.
The catch... the discount is the seller's expense. The interest is still legally an interest payment.
And the government taxes interest at 18% GST.
You pay that GST every month.
Lets break down a ₹1,20,000 phone on 6-month EMI:
Bank's interest at 14%: ₹4,900.
Seller's discount: ₹4,900. Cancels the interest on paper.
GST at 18% on that interest: ₹882.
Processing fee: ₹500 to ₹1,000.
GST on the processing fee: ₹90 to ₹180.
Cashback or coupon you didn't get: ₹2,400 to ₹6,000.
Real extra cost: ₹3,900 to ₹8,000.
On a phone you could have bought outright with a debit/credit card and got 2 to 5% cashback.
That is an effective interest rate of 6.5 to 13%.
It is legal but invisible.
So why does this work?
Because we have been trained to look at the EMI number.
Not the total outflow.
₹1,20,000 feels expensive.
₹20,000 a month feels manageable.
The seller knows this. The bank knows this. The platform knows this.
That is behavioural design.
One thing to do before tapping "No Cost EMI" next time:
Open the calculator on your phone. Multiply the EMI by the number of months. Add processing fee and GST. Compare to the upfront price with cashback. #personalfinance #economy #emi
You must have noticed what happened to Chegg.
Pandemic hits. Students stuck at home.
Chegg's stock goes from $9 to $115.
Tutoring. Homework help. Online learning.
The future of education...right there.
Then ChatGPT launched.
Stock is now under $2.
90% wiped in under 3 years.
What actually happened:
Chegg didn't solve education.
It solved a moment.
The moment was: students need help, can't access it physically, will pay for convenience.
ChatGPT solved the same problem...faster, cheaper, 24/7, no subscription.
The business wasn't built on a trend.
It was built on a temporary gap.
1. Valuation is not validation
$115 stock price felt like proof the model worked.
It was proof the timing worked.
Two very different things.
2. Every crisis creates a gold rush
Pandemic created edtech billionaires.
AI is creating the next wave right now.
The question isn't who's riding it...
It's who's building something that survives after the moment passes.
3. The real moat was never the content
It was friction.
ChatGPT didn't just compete with Chegg.
It removed the friction Chegg was monetising.
When your business model is friction...
you are one innovation away from irrelevance.
Chegg wasn't disrupted.
It was exposed.
Having spent 5 years in Kolkata(2010-2015), doing my CA and graduation from St. Xavier's College, West Bengal is close to me.
So, lets talk about West Bengal from economy perspective.
In 1960, West Bengal contributed 10.5% of India's GDP.
Today that number is 5.6%.
Half. Gone. Over six decades.
This decline happened across every political regime - Congress, Left Front, TMC.
This is not a TMC problem.
It is a structural problem.
So, what broke Bengal:
Industry fled-
At Independence, West Bengal contributed 27% of India's total industrial output.
Trade unions, political interference, poor work culture, the factories closed one by one.
Capital stopped coming-
Policy uncertainty, land acquisition battles, legacy perception.
Investors chose Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka instead.
Fiscal discipline collapsed-
By end of Left rule, 76% of revenue expenditure was committed to salaries, pensions and interest.
Capital expenditure was just 3.31% of total spending.
BJP has won the election.
The harder election starts now.
Reversing 60 years of structural decline needs more than a political mandate.
It needs capital. Industry. Investor confidence. Patience.
Markets are happy today but bengal's economy needs more than one good day.

India is scaling clean energy fast. But clean energy runs on critical minerals - lithium, cobalt, rare earths - where processing is heavily concentrated in China.

Does any country want their retail investors to be financially educated by people who failed their commerce exams?
China doesn't.
China just deleted 4,701 pieces of financial content overnight.
New rule: if you post about finance, medicine, law, or education in China, you must hold verified professional credentials. No degree. No licence. No post.
Fine for non-compliance: ₹11.5 lakh per violation.
And what is happening in India right now:
A 22-year-old with 500K followers tells his audience which stocks to buy. No licence. No accountability. No disclosure. Just confidence and a ring light.
His followers lose money. He makes money from the brand deal attached to the "educational" video.
But the damage goes deeper than individual losses.
Bad financial advice doesn't just hurt individuals. It misallocates capital at scale. Millions chasing the same unqualified tip creates artificial demand, inflated valuations, eventual crashes.
The influencer exits. The followers don't.
India is trying to build a nation of investors.
Unregulated finfluencers are working against that goal.
