I remember driving to a chess tournament as a teenager, and my friend's father was telling me this. He was an MD / PhD, a pharma exec and someone I deeply admired.

He told me to do what you're good at. That way you can put in average effort and get good results, enjoy the rest of your life. Or put in elite effort and get extraordinary results.

You don't want to be putting in great effort to barely make it. Like the guy struggling to make the 54 man roster on an NFL team.

He laughed because he's smart and successful but much worse at chess than his son, much less me the Russian teenager. Not for a lack of effort.

Gotta find what you're good at, and stick with that he told me. I'll never forget that conversation.

Always been a sublime experience.
This place is unique in that people who write often reveal their most intimate ways of thinking consistently; writing is the most accurate physiognomy of the mind. You feel all of the ebbs and flows, and if you've been mutuals for a while you go through the rhythm of different life stages with them.

There's less emphasis on curated fancy images of life so you get a good feel for who's writing, who you can trust, and who you'd form lifelong friendships with. Don't even have to see their face or know much about the details of their life.

Despite its flaws, no other app does it quite like this one.
