In a landmark step for India’s quantum innovation ecosystem, @iitmadras has licensed its indigenously developed high-speed Silicon Photonics-based Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) to Indrarka Quantum Technologies Pvt. Ltd. under a ₹1 Crore deal.
Developed at the Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems (CPPICS), IIT Madras, this achievement marks a significant step in advancing India’s quantum innovation ecosystem.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, with Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean, IC&SR, IIT Madras, Mr. Dinanath Soni & Mr. Tej Soni, Indrarka Quantum Technologies Pvt. Ltd., and Prof. Bijoy Krishna Das, Lead Investigator, CPPICS, as signatories, and witnessed by Dr. Sankhadip Das, @GoI_MeitY, Mr. Nitin Ghadgaonkar, IZMO Microsystems, Dr. Aranab Goswami, CPPICS, IIT Madras, and coordinated by Dr. Dara Ajay, TTO, IIT Madras.
The QRNG has vital applications in defence and IT security, cryptographic algorithms, quantum key distribution, financial transactions, blockchain, scientific simulations, and gaming.
This milestone demonstrates how world-class research at IIT Madras is translated into real-world products, reinforcing India’s leadership in the global quantum technology landscape.

In conversation with @ThanthiTV , Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (@iitmadras) Director Prof. Kamakoti Veezhinathan and Assistant Prof Manish Anand, Department of Mechanical Engineering, shed light on the development of India’s lightest active wheelchair, which weighs just 8.5 kg, nearly half the weight of standard Indian models.
Crafted under the mentorship of Prof. Manish, together with IITM Startup Thryv Mobility, the innovation is the result of a dynamic collaboration across mechanical engineering, metallurgy, design, and more.
What makes it stand out? It’s not only lightweight but also affordable at ₹75,000—far cheaper than imported counterparts. It is ISO 7176-certified, tested by the Indian Army, and uses advanced aluminium and carbon fibre composites to ensure strength and resilience.
More than a mobility aid, this innovation supports civilians, soldiers, the elderly, and even Paralympians, transforming lives through inclusive design. With global patents and high-impact research backing it, this is a shining example of academic innovation meeting social impact.
Let’s continue to empower young minds to explore, innovate, and solve real-world problems.
