Democratization of political parties is vital for a healthy democracy. If parties become private fiefdoms and family heirlooms, and yet have the power to control the vote and speech of legislators, if party bosses arbitrarily decide who will be candidates for elective office, and members and elected legislaties are mere slaves of party bosses, then democracy becomes perfunctory without substance. If parliamentary debate is irrelevant, and there is no possibility of persuasion by logic and evidence, and members' vote is preordained based on party loyalty irrespective public good, then democracy dies slowly. We need far-reaching political and governance reforms; but preserving the autocracy of party bosses is not the way.

For a moment let us set aside the fact that changing the name of the AIFF to the Football Federation of Bharat or adding Vande Mataram in addition to the National Anthem before matches is not going to make any material difference to how the Indian team plays football.
My question is, did none of the committee members in the room even think that as the guardians and guiding lights of the world's most popular sport in the world's most populous country, these were not the decisions that every football lover was looking for from them?
And that worries me more than any name change or additional ceremony. They have no idea how tone deaf their decisions sounded in the middle of a World Cup, utterly detached from ground realities.

A recent distress call: a student has taken about ₹70L ($80K) debt at 12% to get a master's degree in a small college in the US.

The problem: the job scene in IT is bad, especially so for foreign students and payments on the loan are starting soon.

I don't know what we could do in this situation because we have not been hiring much as we transform ourselves for the AI era. That caution in hiring is also because we have a policy of not resorting to lay-offs.

I urge students and parents to be cautious in borrowing heavily to pursue degrees abroad. Borrowing heavily to pursue degrees in India is unwise too.

I strongly believe we should not trap young people in debt in the name of education. The only smart course is for prospective employers to fund training programs and for the industry to broadly accept such alternative credentials rather than ask for formal degrees.

The best investment we make as a company is in training and skill development. I hope companies do this widely so we don't strand young people in debt.

A critical question every manager should ask themselves is "Can bad news reach me? Would people be comfortable telling me what I don't like to hear?"

Being too sensitive is not a virtue in leaders. It would just mean bad news never reaches you.

So one piece of advice I have always given our managers is "You have to grow a thick skin in order to lead any effort".
