Heavy monsoon rains have triggered the collapse of around a dozen marble mines in Makrana, Rajasthan, India, causing part of the Jakhali Road to cave in. The collapse buried mining machinery and vast quantities of marble, bringing operations to a complete standstill.

Officials say the mines are now so heavily filled with debris that it could take one to two years to clear them before mining can resume. Thankfully, the mines were closed at the time and no one was on the road, so no injuries were reported. Nearby mines have also been shut down as a precaution as the rainy season continues.
