Yes students need rules, but even more so they need routines, boundaries, high expectations, and responsibilities. The first doesn't require relationships just enforcement, but the rest depend on a strong relationship to be effective.

To the people who say it’s all about the kids. Just remember the kids learn in an environment created by the teacher. A teacher who is supported, encouraged and appreciated will create a more positive and dynamic learning environment than a teacher who is not supported that way.

When I walk into schools for the first time, I can tell a lot about the school culture just by the way adults greet students in the halls, especially when they don’t know if anyone is watching. It takes no cultural diversity training to say good morning! Let’s Go!

I really enjoyed my week in two grade 5 & 6 classes and 2 K classes. My lessons modelled how to structure your math block, using Manipulatives to solve problems and meeting the needs your class profiles help to identify. @GillisSchool @SunriseSDMB @SueTribula
