1/ Sharjeel Imam calls the "secular consensus" a trap for Indian Muslims.
His argument is that secularism, never questioned the structure that excludes Muslims. It supplied the language that made the exclusion look normal.
Here's how his critique works 🧵
India’s Secular constitution allows, facilitates and in fact rewards Hindus to establish a Hindu Rashtra by actively subverting the Constitution itself.
It however doesn’t allow even an incarcerated Muslim political prisoner to point out this glaringly obvious truth.
This seems to be lost on pagan India’s elite (and wannabe liberals) intelligentsia who are hopping mad at Sharjeel’s audacity which threatens to blow the fascist mask off the carefully constructed image of “world’s largest democracy”.
The meltdown is so delicious.
The silence of Liberals indeed was a problem and this kind of witchhuntin matters because it helps Muslims realise that what separates these liberals from their present-day counterparts is power alone. Within the same errored spectrum, our efforts are merely to replace X with X.
1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national.
2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights.
3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right.
4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else.
5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective:
Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not

The kind of witch hunt Sharjeel Imam is receiving for his views has a lot to do of course with the general lack of depth in people who have never engaged with any critical scholarship on questions of secularism or even decolonial thought for that matter but equally it has to do with the silence of a cowardly academic class who despite seeing the context in his points, refuse to come forward to offer any support.
But don’t worry, history always records the truth. Years from now, when his words are less triggering for an Indian public to read, the silence of those who indirectly participated in his witch hunt will also be remembered.
More power to his pen!
@softspoken04 Can’t possibly know all this shit bro but it is evident from the media feed that the idea is to promote secular, har gunah maaf, only Allah can judge type of Men as good Muslims, as with that they get heedless women and roten children for free, hence easy to control.
"Sectarianism is not a problem that history allows us to eliminate once and for all. It is a recurring feature of human societies. The question is no longer how do we end it — but how do we manage it wisely." — Dr. Ovamir Anjum
Almost every 18th/19th-century Indian political literature (Mughal, Nizam, Awadh, Carnatic, Murshidabad, Hyder-Tipu) portrays Afghans in a negative light.🧵
1930s onward, this negative image started faded, while expressions such as "Pathan ki zabaan" began to gain currency. Why?
Shame.
A Muslim saying he has no other allegiances except to the US constitution — his "guiding light" — is making a statement of kufr. This is precisely the secular "Islam" that western Muslims and their imams have allowed to run amok.
I pain for our hopelessly confused youth.
There are Muslim scholars who have spent decades explaining why music is haram.
Why the wrong kind of beard is haram.
Why a woman’s ankle, visible in the wrong context, requires correction.
These same scholars have found elaborate theological language for why full diplomatic and economic relations with the regime committing a documented genocide in Gaza are "complicated."
"Nuanced."
Requiring careful consideration of "geopolitical realities."
The ankle required no geopolitical consideration.
The precision of religious attention follows the direction of political power.
It always has.
That is not Islam.
That is the religion of whoever is funding the mosque.
