Coming out of my self-imposed Twitter fast to ask for help on behalf of my first home, Sri Lanka. If you can spare 10 bucks or 20, please consider donating. #SriLanka
Folks outside Sri Lanka—I know all your countries are also on fire (it is really not a good year for anyone is it) but as you can tell from recent headlines such as these, Sri Lanka is doing extremely badly, and any support you can give, even small amounts, will go a long way. 🙏🏾
"Because the question of, not 'what's wrong with you?' but 'what happened to you?' allows us to look at a person from not a place of judgement but a place of trying to understand what went on before that is causing that behavior." - @Oprah#SXSWEDU
ICYMI: Oprah's on fire this week. Powerful opening #SXSWedu keynote on #whathappenedtoyou w/ neuroscientist Bruce Perry. Trauma is all-too-often real and deep, but one consistent, stable person makes all the difference. It's what changes the trajectory.
.@Oprah: "So is it possible to heal from the damage that's been done this past year?"
Dr. @BDPerry: "It's going to take time. It is possible. Healing is always possible." #SXSWEDU
If we don't deal with the trauma-informed stress responses first, we will never be able to reach children to teach them things like math or geography that happen in the higher part of the brain [paraphrasing Dr. Bruce Perry] #sxswedu
Trauma being defined as how it changes your "stress responses" is such a powerful shift. The idea of small, traumatic stresses changing our biology and how it changes our ability to adapt is so important to understand. #SXSWedu
@SCBWI_Florida The SCBWI winter conference inspired me and also help me set realistic expectations; I also found amazing people to follow on Twitter that I would not have known about if not for the conference. I’m so grateful for the privilege.
@SCBWI_Florida Attend my first SCBWI conference (check), work on two more PB ideas, gather the courage to join a critique group, take part in at least one contest
@SCBWI_Florida Hi All! Sorry this is so late—the care and keeping of children, I tell you. I’m based in South Florida (Broward County) and working on some PB’s on the weekends. Still finding my way around this world. ☺️
My grandfather used to say things like “we were at a cocktail party last night at the Indonesian consulate”. I learned quickly it was kinder to say “how was it?” than to explain his wife was deceased and the last time he attended one was probably 50 years ago 😔
If a dementia patient says “I was in France yesterday with my friend Ernie.” You’ll respond “oh, how is Ernie?” 😍
Eric Garcia shares his experience as a dementia #caregiver to his mom and what he learned. Don't miss out! 👉 https://t.co/16dcdNFoRF
