A trailer on my latest documentary, #Pettah which is the busiest and most vibrant market in Sri Lanka. I chose to tell the story of mostly Indian-origin minority communities who run businesses in Pettah, making huge, invaluable contributions to the country’s economy. But we have been “othering” them too long, post-independence.
Incredibly lucky to have worked with a talented bunch of production and post-production team.

If a company tried selling apartments in apartheid South Africa in London, there would be outrage.
Yet Labour is allowing a real estate fair marketing homes in illegal Israeli settlements built on stolen Palestinian land.
Labour rolls out the red carpet for Israeli war criminals, criminalises those resisting genocide, and keeps supplying arms to a genocidal apartheid state.
Ban this event NOW.
Israeli military vehicles have advanced beyond the so-called “yellow line” at Bani Suheila Roundabout, east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, pursuing displaced civilians and threatening families sheltering in tents.

Amnesty International’s Agnes Callamard says the ethnic cleansing and annexation of the occupied West Bank are not the actions of a few extremist settlers, but part of a state-backed project.
She’s calling on the international community to boycott Israel as violence escalates.
It is so powerful to watch tens of thousands of Bosnians – whose people survived genocide – marching the streets of Toronto, supporting Palestinians – who are currently fighting to survive genocide.

A doctor kidnapped from a besieged hospital, tortured and held without charge for over 500 days, would surely be called a HOSTAGE.
Unless he’s Palestinian.
With a long-term ceasefire between US and Iran in sight, Gulf states may look for new security guarantees once the war in their region is over https://t.co/zJMFUl8BzD
This is an affront to British justice & democracy. This is what Starmer, Lammy & Cooper have created in Britain: a system that represents Netanyahu & Elbit Systems rather than the interests of the British people, the vast majority of whom want to stop arms sales to Israel. The right to protest is dead, the right to an open & honest trial is dead. The right to be on the side of peace & human decency rather than genocide, is dead
BREAKING: IRAN FM ARAGHCHI CONFIRMS 14 POINT MOU:
"We set in motion a process that is now drawing close to its end. The result is a fourteen-point memorandum of understanding… it has not yet been signed, and until the very last moment things may still shift. Once it is done, I will come and explain every point to the people."
🇦🇪🇮🇷 UAE to Unlock Billions for Iran in Exchange for Halt to Attacks
The United Arab Emirates has agreed to release billions of dollars to Iran in return for an end to Iranian missile and drone attacks on the Gulf state, four sources told Reuters, a sharp pivot after weeks of strikes exchanged between the two during the war.
Estimates ranged from $10 billion to $20 billion, with a first $3 billion tranche already delivered. Reuters could not establish whether the funds belong to the UAE or come from long-blocked Iranian accounts in its banking system.
The arrangement lets each side save face, one source said: Iran can claim compensation for war damages, Washington can insist it paid nothing, and Abu Dhabi secures its safety and Dubai’s status as a business hub.
How the deal came together, per the sources:
🔸 Talks accelerated when Iranian Revolutionary Guard officials visited Abu Dhabi last week to meet Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed al Nahyan, the UAE’s national security adviser, staying at his guest house
🔸 UAE officials then traveled to Tehran to finalize the mechanism
🔸 In return, Iran agreed to halt attacks and rebuild ties, including intelligence sharing
🔸 Tehran has approached at least two other Gulf states about similar deals
Iran’s last known direct strike on the UAE was a May 4 attack on Fujairah port. The move coincides with final-stage U.S.-Iran talks that could free tens of billions in frozen Iranian oil revenues.
Spoke at length with @MarioNawfal just an hour ago about how close we are to a deal, what the remaining obstacles will be - and how little the MOU may mean in the larger scheme of things as the final deal is by no means guaranteed.
That the West dared to make Iranians and Iran seem “uncivilized” was perhaps even dumber than their active pursuit of war with Iran. One of the greatest victories Iran has achieved since Feb 28 is reversing those perceptions.
The EU is quietly approaching a decision it spent two years avoiding: trade measures on Israeli settlement goods.
Most coverage misses why this moment is different. It isn't new outrage. It's a legal opinion that just removed the EU's favourite excuse.
