The quota protest organisers called for mass protests today against the law enforcement killings and the ensuing government crackdown involving arbitrary arrests of thousands, as well resignation of key ministers and apology from the prime minister. And people have responded in their thousands throughout the country and in many different places in the capital city Dhaka.
Here are just two images from Dhaka. Video from Kilgaon with chants of: “we have given blood. We will give more blood”. The picture is from Uttara. One other key chant heard at other protests In Dhaka I am told is: “Step down dictator, step down Hasina, one demand one demand, when you are going away Hasina?” (Hasina being the country’s prime minister)

Shame on BD Govt. At first they killed innocent students for no reason and now they are blaming them for damaging public property. The most stupidest statement is here.

Bangladesh's Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting @MAarafat71, stated,
"𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬."
Does he even understand what he is saying? How disrespectful it is to speak so callously about the innocent young men, who lost their lives due to police brutality. It is fortunate that the government itself provided subtitles for his statement. I kindly request members of the international press to take note of this obnoxious and unacceptable comment by Arafat, as well as his attempt to malign opposition political parties. It is unbelievable that someone can stoop so low.
BA 6047 Lieutenant Colonel Redwanul Islam was seen shooting at the student protestors yesterday. Redwanul, who served at @UNPeacekeeping a few years ago, also served with the @USTreasury sanctioned Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Special Security Force (SSF) of Bangladesh. In the footage, BA 6047 Redwanul was captured shooting at unarmed civilians, which is a clear violation of the rules of engagement.

"The situation in the country still remains very tense and volatile."
Al Jazeera's @tanvirbengal reports on the latest developments in Bangladesh's government job quota protests.
A nationwide curfew that was supposed to end Sunday in Bangladesh has been extended 'indefinitely'.
Telecommunications have also been suspended - effectively isolating the country.
Those measures are in place to deter protests against the government's jobs quota system - which have seen violent police crackdowns. At least 114 people have been killed, and thousands injured.
The country's Supreme Court is now meeting and is expected to hand down a decision on the quota system in the coming hours.
@tanvirbengal@AJEnglish with latest from Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Disturbing images from Dhaka, photographed yesterday in Bangladesh's capital, show a youth lying lifeless in a pool of blood, appearing to have been shot in the head. Security personnel, who might have shot him, roamed callously around the scene.

NEW: The military appears largely restrained despite ‘shoot-at-sight’ orders from the government, our contributors report from Dhaka.

Bangladesh has enforced a nationwide curfew to quash student-led protests against government job quotas, with the military and police patrolling the streets of the capital, Dhaka https://t.co/7pIxpUEQRA
BANGLADESH 🇧🇩 : The Government must immediately overturn the curfew with a ‘shoot on sight’ order that grants excessive powers to the security forces.
The curfew must be urgently lifted, and all the people detained or arrested solely for exercising their right to protest peacefully should be immediately and unconditionally released.
The authorities are obligated under international law to always exercise restraint and use no more force than is strictly necessary, proportionate and lawful in response to any escalation they may face. #SaveBangaldeshiStudents #ProtectTheProtest
Updates from Bangladesh:
Defying the curfew, protesters have taken to the streets at several locations in Bangladesh. Eyewitnesses in Dhaka have claimed, 'Military helicopters are patrolling certain areas, and despite the military presence, people are gathering at different locations. There are noises of loud sirens; it's like a civil war situation.' Some television channels operating from Bangladesh are attempting to spread propaganda in favor of Hasina's government, but without much success.
