When women say they want to be just friends, many times they don’t have any intention to be friends. They just want to be in a position to be beneficiaries of male resources without having to give anything in return.

When you make a sexual or romantic move on a woman and she says “let’s just be friends” she often doesn’t understand what she is saying. It’s easier to just be my sex partner than to be my friend. To be my friend means you have to show up for me in many ways. Be someone I can reach out to in my down times. Be someone I can trust to cover for me in certain times.

Many women don’t expect this at all. They just want girlfriend benefits without the commitment. They know male friends take them out and foot the bill. They know they can rely on male friends to help them with little (or big) bills. He will patronise her small business.
But nothing will be required of her because “we are just friends”.

I had to ask one recently that said we are friends that “are we truly friends? If we are friends tell me ONE friendly gesture I have enjoyed from being your friend” crickets***

One reason men hate the “let’s just be friends” request is because many know that for a lot of women, the only thing they can truly offer (sex) is being taken off the table. If you can offer other beneficial things apart from sex, then maybe being just friends with you won’t be such a bad idea.
