IMPORTANT: Denied entry to #India for speaking on democratic & constitutional values. I was invited to a conference as esteemed delegate by Govt of #Karnataka (Congress-ruled state) but Centre refused me entry. All my documents were valid & current (UK passport & OCI). THREAD 1/n
Good morning. THIS is the biggest thing in a while. Bihar has released caste survey figures. The first census data of *all* castes in a state since 1931. Data confirms what anti-caste scholars and politicians have been saying for a while: UCs only 15% of population. Bahujans 85%
Caste, class and bigotry all in one - "Rich Hindus, living in gated areas in Gurgaon, India, cheer when poor Muslims are killed in riots & mosques being burned. When Muslims left, rich Hindus want them back because no one is there to work for them & clean their garbage."
They own the house - let that sink in. An Indian Muslim family are being preventing from living in a house they lawfully own.
The state has stopped protecting their property rights here - this is apartheid.
At home in Delhi 4 : I look at the living conditions of millions of Delhi’s industrial and informal workers , how they have been pushed to the margins and continue to struggle for decent housing.

Indian cities, languishing from the expectations of "world-class" city building, have reduced themselves to a dystopic nightmare. We get the 'why' of loiter, but I think we are in urgent need of a memo on 'how to loiter'.
