In 1954, Constance Fisher drowned her three young children in a bathtub in Maine. The system called it insanity, locked her in a state hospital, then sent her home after she was declared better.

She and her husband had three more children.

In 1966 she drowned those three too—same method, same ages: 6, 4, and an infant. Again found not guilty by reason of insanity. Back to the hospital. In 1973 she walked off the grounds and was found drowned in the river.

Six children. Two chances. One “she got better.”

This is what happens when a diagnosis becomes a get-out-of-consequences card and no one is required to put the next child first. Mental illness is real.

Dead kids are also real. A system that releases a mother who already killed three, then lets her raise three more, did not protect anyone except the adult who kept getting another chance.

The names were Richard, Daniel, Deborah, Kathleen, Michael, and Natalie. They never got a second chance.

I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) at 21 years old. After I gave birth in my 30’s, I had the same thoughts people are using to excuse Lindsay Clancy. I saw myself throwing my son down the basement stairs. I saw myself throwing him from a moving car. I heard voices. I tried to kill myself twice.

I told my husband. I made the choice and refused to be left alone with my son until I was stable. I did not have her doctors or her money. I still knew what I was thinking. I still CHOSE not to do it.

Those thoughts do not appear, get obeyed, and then vanish. That is a cop-out. I took all the medications they keep trying to excuse her with. I was not well. I was still responsible. I CHOSE to ensure my son was safe until I was ok again.

You will never convince me otherwise, She killed those children.

IF a voice was there, she made the CHOICE to listen. That is not illness doing the killing. That is a decision.

And now the jury is deadlocked. Nine women and three men. They were not sequestered. They were just told “don’t look at the news” and sent home. Several showed up in pink, the same color her supporters wear outside court. That is flat out unacceptable.

Three babies were strangled. This should not be a club. She deserves the full weight of the law.

Were it up to me, that would be public execution.

That is the whole argument. Not “was she sad.” Not “did she hear voices.” What happens after you let them out, and who pays for it the second time.

Lindsay Clancy strangled her three kids. People are already writing her a sympathy card and calling prison cruel. Cruel is three little bodies. Cruel is doing it once and getting a path back to freedom. Cruel is pretending history didn’t already run this experiment and lose six kids.

Mental illness can explain how someone gets there. It does not give you a free murder. It does not entitle you to more children. And it does not require the rest of us to wait around and see if the next round dies too.

If you kill your kids, you don’t get to be a mother again. You don’t get a soft landing and a second family. Life without parole. Lock the door. Stop experimenting on other people’s children and making excuses.

Convict her. Convict those who harm children. Period.

*Lindsay was a acrobat. A stunt cheerleader. A Flyer. She stunted atop pyramids in College. 20 feet was nothing.

*Lindsay did Not dive head first. There were no abrasions or marks on her head.

*Lindsay landed on her back which is consistent with lowering herself and losing control.

*Jefferson fractures can also result from impact directly on that vertebrae.

*Blood on the window sill and shingles are indicative that she lowered herself.

*Lindsay almost died. No doubt. She broke her C1 vertebrae. But was that planned? Or did she land wrong? Did she slip and lose control?
