Soedan is tig veilige landen hiervandaan
Opvang in Loosdrecht is bizar.
@EvaVlaar
Scenes from Northern France as more make the journey to the French northern coast to get over to the UK. Nearly 3,000 have arrived in the UK in the last 8 days with hundreds arriving daily to the migrant camps.
Chilling testimony this: I interviewed an Alawite Syrian doctor who is in France and whose family member was killed today in the Syrian coastal city of Baniyas by HTS-fighters.
Very dramatic story as his niece and the children are still next to the body of their killed husband/father as nobody is allowed to move due to curfew.
Doctor confirmed to me the execution of eight people (7 Alawites and one Christian) in the building where his niece lives. But because dead bodies are still in the apartments, the total number of killed in that area is unclear and might be higher.
Here is the story that I typed up:
Sectarian Massacre in Banyas: ‘They Killed My Relative in Front of His Wife and Children’
By Jenan Moussa
Over the phone and via WhatsApp, Syrian national Adnan Hassan, who now lives in France, is receiving horrifying news from his relatives in Banyas. Members of his family are still trapped inside their apartment, too afraid and not allowed to step outside after Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) gunmen stormed their building and executed engineers based on their sect.
"This morning, there was a curfew in Banyas. Nobody was allowed to leave their house. Nobody could walk on the street," Hassan tells us. "Then an HTS convoy of about 15 vehicles entered the city, patrolling some neighborhoods, including Al Qusoor."
Al Qusoor, a central district in Banyas, is home to many engineers and workers from the local oil industry, primarily the state-run oil transport company and the Banyas oil refinery. The housing is provided by the public sector, accommodating employees and their families. It was in one of these buildings that the targeted sectarian killings took place.
HTS gunmen went from apartment to apartment, claiming to conduct an inspection. But the first question they asked each resident was chilling:
"What is your sect? What is your religion?"
According to Hassan, the answer determined who lived and who died. Seven Alawite engineers and one Christian engineer were executed on the spot. The only Sunni engineer in the building was spared.
"My niece’s husband, Sinan Jrewa, was one of the victims. They shot him dead in front of his wife and children," Hassan says. "His neighbors, an Alawite couple, were also murdered. I don’t even know why the woman was killed as well."
After executing their victims, the HTS fighters looted the apartments, stealing phones, money, and gold from the women. Meanwhile, the survivors remain in hiding, unable to leave or seek help due to the ongoing curfew and the fear from the armed fighters.
For Hassan, the news is both shocking and deeply personal. Now in exile in France, he was once a political prisoner in Syria during the rule of Hafez al-Assad. Arrested in 1987 for his communist beliefs, he spent 12 years and 16 days in jail, only gaining his freedom in 1999. He fully supported the Syrian revolution when it began in 2011, hoping for an end to Assad’s dictatorship.
"I stood with the revolution with all my strength," he says. "I wanted this criminal regime removed from our chests."
But today, after learning of the sectarian massacre that took his relative’s life, Hassan is in shock.
"I never expected the replacement of the Assad regime would be like this," he says. "I never imagined I would lose someone close to me because of the actions of the new rulers—the rulers who came after the revolution I supported."
He now believes the revolution has been hijacked by extremists. "There seem to be international deals going on that are bigger than us. And we got these new rulers with a barbaric mentality—people who cannot build a state or a country. It’s all very, very unfortunate."
For Hassan and many Syrians who once dreamed of a better future, Banyas is yet another tragedy in a war that has shattered their hopes.
Even later kreeg ik onderstaande mail.
Of misschien moeten we dat allemaal even doen. #WordtVervolgd
