A new study (https://t.co/D3GeWNEIio) by collaborators [Hyeonseok Seong (DESY), Seokhoon Yun (IBS)] and I identified a new resonance to enhance a class of experiments called light-shining-through-walls. A π§΅
@martinmbauer Occasionally, referees go on strikes by demanding to be paid by their remotely related work being cited. If the demand is not met before the deadline, they threaten to reject the manuscript. Rumor has it that they get away with it most of the time.
@martinmbauer Mind you that this is for job applications instead of grant proposals (where some do require the referee to give comments on their score.) That is to say, the hiring chair was under no obligation to gather feedback from the committee member but did it anyway. I'm very grateful
@martinmbauer My impression is that ppl in the US treat this type of feedback very differently from their colleagues in Europe. For example, I have had very helpful (with bullet points) feedback from the latter on both strengths and weaknesses but almost never from the US institutes.
@CburgesCliff@martinmbauer Jokes aside, how Gaussian can the brain neural network be? I imagine that it shouldn't be very Gaussian but perhaps the nonlinearity renders the two 'similar'? (Can't access the article bc of paywall)
I'm excited about my upcoming TEDx talk this Saturday. The topic is "What if we build a Higgs factory?" If you're in Sarajevo, I warmly invite you to join us!

@martinmbauer Perhaps AI's will start their own Internet+ thinking ours being too outdated, so our 'handwritten' Internet gets to be preserved. Maybe AI's will go so far as to invent their own CAPTCHA to ban human users from messing with their Internet
@DarkCosmologist At least it now has more comments, commented out lines, & print of randm things that only you can decipher, like any scifi scenes.I also find it useful when deciding with partner who should cook dinner"hon, I'm in the middle of a hot mess if i stop ill never remember where i was"
@innesbigaran I find re-reading the Foundation series helpful to unwind over the weekends. Known issue of this solution: it runs out quickly, though. So you need to find books for next weekend. One more thing for the to-do list, and there's that
Bravo to the 22.9% who (correctly) concluded that the string connecting the rocket breaks!
Contrary to what is often taught, it is perfectly possible to handle accelerated reference frames in Special Relativity. This problem is a nice example. 𧡠1/
@martinmbauer I can't help but wonder if the Overwhelmingly Large Telescope got canceled because it's too overwhelming. π€£ That could be a lesson for naming future colliders so the funding agencies don't get scared away
