New York: it's hot out there, and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool.
Set your AC to 78 degrees, turn off lights/electronics you're not using, and unplug what you can.
Our City is doing its part too: maintaining the 78 degrees rule in our buildings, dimming/turning off our lights during peak electricity demand, asking private partners to do the same, and powering down non-essential equipment.
A stable grid means the AC stays on, and lives are saved. Let's ease demand — and get through the heat — together.
@ArynneWexler Naa this is normal precaution when it's extremely hot so people don't over power the grid and cause a blackout. I am sure many cities and states following similar guidelines during a heatwave
Europe is suffering through its worst heat wave in recorded history.
This week, 3 dozen U.S. states will likely see record-breaking temperatures.
No, Mr. Trump. Climate change is not a “hoax.”
We must stop fossil fuel industry greed and save the planet.
Fun fact: the majority of Trump voters don’t remember that he was president when Covid hit. They believe it was Biden. Yes, they are really that stupid.
@frauleinruby If they are expected to keep increasing doesn't that make it more of a reason to invest in AC it literally prevents death and illness. Throughout the years AC and heating have become more energy efficient the carbon footprint isn't that big compared to other things we use daily
We got rid of checkout staff at supermarkets, now you do it.
Prices went up
We got rid of films, music, game discs, now you own it as long as they let you
Prices went up.
Now AI is bringing the same, terrible services, no jobs
The only thing that goes up are their profits
Actually, I miss the world before AI more than I miss the world before the pandemic. I hate what it’s doing to publishing, job markets, schooling, and the internet. It’s made people question every piece of content they see. I’m tired of reading about it, seeing it, or thinking about it.
What really bugs me these days is that we can't own anything anymore. Everything is a subscription. Adobe, Notion, Spotify. You don't just buy things once, you keep paying every month. You literally have to pay for everything forever. Isn't anyone else bothered by this ??
That’s what happens when you’re constantly stressed because there are no jobs, finding love feels impossible, homeownership is out of reach, and the future looks hopeless.
Ok, time to call a spade a spade, even if some folks aren’t going to like it.
The real reason millions of Europeans have been discouraged to use AC is not because of the environment, it’s because the electric grid would be overwhelmed.
Because of politicians failure to build adequate infrastructure and power plants matching actual needs.
Because they’ve been pushing an anti nuclear energy agenda for decades.
And because they’ve failed to do hard things, such as telling the Truth.
Also because for decades, they failed about being honest with their people regarding Europe’s dependency on Russian gas.
Now?
Vulnerable people are suffering because these politicians were too busy lining their pockets instead of doing their job, which is to make hard decisions and which should be about making people’s lives easier.
And don’t tell me “but Greece/Italy/Malta/Spain and Croatia have AC”. Good for them, but it doesn’t change the fact that right now millions of people are suffering in Germany, the UK, France and elsewhere. In trains, buses, hospitals, schools and daycare centers with no AC.
Meanwhile, the “let them eat cake” crowd in Brussels are running AC in their offices, and media talking heads are telling you from their air conditioned tv studio that you should just use a cold pack and paint your windows white.
Guys, I don’t know what to tell you, but I think it’s time to wake up. The boiling frog syndrome is strong in Europe, and no, I’m not just talking about French people there.
And before you call me a dumb American like a brainwashed parrot, sorry, but I’m not a US citizen, I hold an EU passport and I’ve spent more than 50% of my life in Europe.
I’m not here to mock European people currently suffering, I’m genuinely furious about what elderly people, infants and vulnerable individuals in general are currently going through right now. I also think it’s criminal to have bus drivers, doctors and nurses working under those conditions.
Especially when the current situation could have been avoided if it wasn’t for misguided political agendas and in the name of an “equity” which, as it turns out, is hurting the poor and vulnerable people the most.
I’m done rambling on this topic, but I sure won’t forget about all this. And yes, whether you like it or not, European countries refusing to adapt to hotter summers are sabotaging their own economy and jeopardizing their future.
@The_Truth_816@LonelyGoomba And the tech billionaires forcing AI down our throats they are the ones that need to be stopped not everyday people that want to stay comfortable
