CHARLEY'S WAR (1979-1985): Pat Mills and Joe Colquhoun's astonishing anti-war strip about a 16 year-old soldier in World War I ran in the pages of Battle Picture Weekly, and pulled no punches, despite its young audience. One of the greatest comic strips ever.

@Colin_TBTAMC I read that a few months ago. It feels like a gripping novel! I felt a little of the desperation and the horror for the first time and that account of the attack on the 9th legion made me feel like I was there watching.

@annie_shadrake @LBFlyawayhome I've got one at home. My dad rescued it from a rubbish tip, mounted it on a piece of wood for portability and then gave it to me. It's rusted up now but I still keep it to remind me of him.
