ActionAid Association West Bengal State team , the Eastern/Northeastern region leadership team will be with women Climate Justice Defenders in Sunderbans today as per the programme below. This visit serves as solidarity visit to further amplify learning and expansion of rooted climate work in the states of eastern and northeastern regions in the coming months.
The day will begin with a visit to the Mangrove Nursery in Amratala Village, an initiative of ActionAid where women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have successfully cultivated 630,000 mangrove saplings. The team will interact with some of these women and hear firsthand how this effort is contributing to their livelihoods.
Next destination is Purandar Village, where around 90–100 youth and women from ten nearby villages—members of our grassroots groups—will join us. This engagement is part of the larger vision to mobilize 1,000 village-level climate justice defenders across 40 villages over the next three years.
The final leg of the visit will take us to Kotrakhali to witness the mangrove plantation site where the plantation has started.’

The ActionAid Association leadership team visited Kotrakhali in South 24 Parganas, a climate-vulnerable region where a large-scale mangrove restoration initiative is underway with support from the @SBI_FOUNDATION .
Over 630,000 mangrove saplings, cultivated by women from local Self-Help Groups (SHGs), are ready for plantation. This initiative not only protects coastal areas from erosion and extreme weather but also boosts biodiversity and provides sustainable livelihoods for frontline communities.
A powerful example of climate resilience through community-led action.

With the support of @SBI_FOUNDATION , a large-scale mangrove plantation initiative is making a meaningful impact in Kotrakhali, located in the climate-vulnerable region of South 24 Parganas. As part of this effort, over 630,000 mangrove saplings have been cultivated and ready for plantation. All these have been done by women from local Self-Help Groups (SHGs). This initiative not only contributes to protecting coastal areas from erosion and extreme weather but also enhances biodiversity and strengthens the ecological balance. Most importantly, it creates sustainable livelihoods for the communities who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. This is a powerful example of how environmental restoration and community empowerment can go hand in hand, building a more resilient and just future.
