Why is the force not trained to handle marches where the crowd is organic, curious, and motivated by a common cause?

Yesterday, they used the same protocol that they use to break organised marches by political workers motivated by ideology.

In this case, this is the first time for most of the youth. Even their leaders are novices. The young men and women have come believing they would be heard if they protest loudly enough. They have no prior experience of clashing with the uniform.

Unfortunately, neither does the police, who are well-trained in handling political workers. This was out of their syllabus/manual.

Going forward, they have to handle this with extraordinary care, because this crowd isn't made of ordinary lathi-hardened party workers who do this for their leader. CJP is not a party yet, they have no workers, only a few spokespersons. Out of them, only Dipke is trained, that too in backroom stuff.

This crowd is mostly made up of young men and women who are doing this for themselves. To them, a beating is brutal. For police, it's just another day at work.

This is complicated and the constabulary is not trained in the 'complicated', for a reason. And that's a complication.

Had he been say a German, French, Spanish literature stalwart, he would have donned emirates scholar position in great universities and his legacy and teachings would have been institutionalised long before. Jabalpur Uni and his alma mattar Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur should have rolled out red carpet for him but look at the state of academic departments of these unis.

Vinod ji ‘s life shows how Hindi while treated as a holy cow for posturing is actually dying because its literature rests only on brave shoulders of such minuscule greats.

30-50 % of academic posts of most Hindi departments in public universities are vacant. No private university in whole of Hindi belt has a Hindi department, while these unis are first to tom-tom their nationalist creds.

Publishers don’t pursue new authors in Hindi and instead take them for a ride. And I have to write this angst in English to make sense of my sadness for him.

Corruption is essential for democracy because democracy requires elections and elections require unaccounted money to buy the ticket to contest and then votes to win.

Having said that, a reasonable limit would be appreciated. The ticket prices in Bihar have gone through the roof.

If a candidate has to spend all his or her money on a ticket, how will one buy votes?

Disgusting to see no price controls in a poor state of this low-income country. When will we have socialism in politics?

Politicians pay lip service to socialism but when it comes to ticket pricing, they follow prohibitively exorbitant practices. This is extortion.

If people spend so much wealth on just getting elected, they will be forced to swindle money from public works and extort from the people, who have to bear the cost of democracy.

I am not calling for cheap democracy. But cost moderation is essential. I request all stakeholders to sit down and by consensus make the process affordable for the rich and powerful so that they are not excessively cruel on the poor people this democracy is meant for.

This corruption doesn't thrive in isolation. The bureaucracy has to make money for the politician so that the politician can keep democracy alive.

Since Bihar is a poor state, it cannot compete with states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab, etc., to have the same rates.

These states are developed to a point that they match the cost, rupee for dollar, of US elections. We are glad to finally outdo developed nations in some departments, but can we first beat them in other departments first, please?
