This debate about slowing down the progress of AI has split the world in two

Cynicism and Doomerism each having valid arguments and both having fear based marketing.

My understanding on this situation has been that the goal of AI pioneers had always been reaching super intelligence, and assuming everyone will slow down while living in a multipolar world would be a naive hypothesis.

the underlying question remains whom do we to trust as humanity to be a moral compass as this becomes beyond good and evil where moral binaries usually disguise a question about power rather than answer it.

I’m not an AI doomer, but my firsthand experience dating back to 2020 is that the researchers expressing concerns are sincere.

The closer they are to the research, the more worried they seem to be.
