after 4 years of listening to Ellie Goulding's "Lights" on my many calls to Tech Support, @Tecan_Talk has finally changed their hold music!!!! To a new, also slightly techno song that I am sure I will hate by the end of my PhD.
@EdnaChiang@UWMadisonMDTP@pCodyM@jentranxd I still find it crazy that we were there but didn't meet, and now learning that Jennifer was there too! I loved how Beckman Scholars program brought students from small and large schools together.
Using modelling I infer the species interaction network and learn that C. diff has the largest number and magnitude of incoming negative interactions. What else? Propagule pressure, clinical isolates, and more! Thanks @oventurelli2@rylincolnclark and @yili_qian for all the help!
Super cool: Labs developing bacterial communities to resist C. difficile infections as next-gen therapies
Super cool: Invasion theory developed by ecologists over decades
Me: I want to combine these! Out on biorxiv now: https://t.co/aKaDIi9NAH
I learned that communities inhibit C. difficile growth by decreasing the environmental pH and competing for resources (like glucose). I find that C. difficile’s relative C. hiranonis has an intense competition with C. difficile!
Do you ever apply for NSF Grants that have Broader Impact requirements? Would you like to work with me and @ComplexlyMedia to get outreach work done? I feel like we can help each other!

Hey white people, I want to know a time where you had an opportunity to uphold white supremacy but you didn't. What did that look like, what did you learn from it, and what can you teach others about your experience?
#MDTP Student Highlight: Susan Hromada
@susanhromada studies the human gut microbiome to understand how they resist pathogens. Because they are anaerobes, they often smell bad, but the research is worth it!
