@MrsJessMoore Jess, I love your concrete examples! Talking about values using a character from a book and the Smart-board Pictionary game. I love how you lead the students to discussions of NOT instead of telling them (Dr. Kruse would be proud). :) Great post!
@janae_shough I am with you, Janae...quality learning need not involve electronics! Great point about modeling as well. Good teaching involves being a good role model as well!
My latest blog-post about the price of classroom technology. Take a look!
Technology & Teaching: Technology Comes with a Price https://t.co/G2CNTWrorv #edu109
@srtawebster Kaylee, I hope you are right! Although I don't consider myself anti-technology, after reading the article you posted, I might be (okay, not really). The thought of all of this rising technology finding its way into "enemy hands" is really unnerving.
@TomRuden2@Forbes Is money truly the purpose behind everything? If we all end up as programmable humanoids, we won't care about money. I truly hope, as the article states, that a global policy on tech ethics takes shape. Otherwise...
My reaction to this blog is this....where will we as decent, kind and humane people draw the line? My hope is that technology aimed to cure cancer will not also be used to design beautiful babies. This post raises some great questions. Critical thinking is key (as we've learned).
An interesting, and slightly frightening, blog post from Scientific American. Take a look!
What Impact Will Emerging Technologies Have on Society? https://t.co/UXr70qAZPK via @sciam#ed109
@janae_shough We hear it all the time from older friends and relatives, the idea that life used to be simpler. Neighbors connected, kids played outside, etc. Researching vacations and mapping travels was probably more challenging, but not worth what we've given up.
@MrsJessMoore Way to go on choosing a technology that doesn't involve electronics or the internet! Where we live with little access to public transportation does seem to require a personal vehicle.
@MrsJessMoore I agree with the quality control issue. I do think that Pinterest has fewer security concerns than Facebook since you aren't putting your personal information, photos, location on the site.
My favorite social media site is Pinterest. Pro - well organized way to save ideas for anything and everything. Con - it can be a huge time waster. I can get lost in the world of pinning and often find that I've pinned the same thing more than once. #ed109#NOT
@srtawebster I like that you point out Instagram can "hide the truth." People start to lose their humanity in a way and become more like polished, air-brushed magazine images.
@jerridkruse@Sophie_Gray27 I get it! You just blindly follow. Similar to the article we read in class "Myths About the Nature of Technology," that states not to give students step-by-step instructions for completing an assignment as it takes away their creativity and problem-solving skills. #ed109
