“The international community should hold up a mirror to themselves, and ask: after a decade of grievous suffering, are we going to fail the people of Myanmar yet again? The answer must be no.” - @volker_turk

Where bombs on Ukraine, Gaza or Lebanon at least reach the news, Myanmar is truly the world's ignored conflict.

19 June 2026, Nay Pyi Taw
The Myanmar military junta has launched a nationwide 24-hour social media monitoring system targeting online users, according to junta-appointed Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Min Thu.
The announcement was made on Thursday during a Pyithu Hluttaw session in Nay Pyi Taw.
"Our cyber agencies are conducting continuous 24-hour surveillance to address political opposition content, fake news, misinformation and inappropriate online material across social media platforms," Maj-Gen Min Thu said during the session.
The statement came in response to a question from Daw Than Than Aye, a junta-aligned lawmaker representing the Thingangyun constituency.
Daw Than Than Aye asked about security measures for identifying and prosecuting individuals using digital platforms to support anti regime activities and distribute alternative news reports.
"Security agencies are monitoring, investigating and making arrests on a 24-hour basis against those using digital platforms to incite resistance or spread unverified information," the deputy minister said. "These actions are being carried out under Section 50 and Section 52 of the 2014 Counterterrorism Law and Section 505(a) of the Penal Code."
According to figures presented by Maj-Gen Min Thu, junta authorities have arrested nearly 14,000 people under Counterterrorism Law provisions between early 2024 and May 2026.
An additional 2,000 people were prosecuted under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code during the same period over online activities.
