I wish it wasn't the case, but you lack fundamental understanding of God's love, justice and His view of sin. Eternal life is granted ONLY through understanding that you are a sinner wholly unable to perform ANY work that would give you access to God or Heaven. Your good works, striving to be Christ-like aren't able to get you anywhere with God.

Romans 3:19-28 says
19 "Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;
20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.
21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;
26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law."

Jesus is part of the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus is the UNCREATED GOD who was and is and is to come. If He is anything other than this, He has NO power to save you from your sin. Any sin no matter how small is treason against a Holy God who cannot be associated with sin. Because of this, those who do not trust in His death, burial and resurrection for their salvation will die in their sin and spend eternity in Hell.
Yes, God loves people. He loves them enough to have sent His only Son to die in their place. Giving them pardon that they could never earn on their own.
Please understand, I don't say these things to try to dunk on you, or score some kind of points. I am trying to relate the truth of the gospel to you. The LDS beliefs that you hold aren't true and don't represent the LORD Jesus or the scripture on which these truths are based. For the sake of your soul, I pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal to you the truth of who Jesus is and what He's done for you.
I also challenge you to read the New Testament for yourself. Put down the Book of Mormon, the Words of Wisdom, the Pearl of Great Price and any other Mormon resource. Start with the Gospel of John. Go to a local Baptist or Calvary Chapel Church. Talk to the leaders there. Ask questions and be open to their answers.
Lastly, I stand with you in every area that I can. The fight for life, the stop of mutilation of children, returning our nation to biblical morals and probably other things I'm not mentioning. But I can't in good conscience let you continue in your spiritual blindness. I hope you will hear this in the spirit in which it's intended.
