Apostle Iren’s sermon today was exceptional. He preached on how the Gospel commands us, as believers, to be interested in social matters like justice and righteousness.

Before explaining that, he first *explicated* the Gospel itself. He went on to show how Paul’s interpretation of Genesis 15:6 in Romans 4 and James’ interpretation in James 2 may seem to contradict each other. Paul says we are saved by faith alone, while James says we are justified by works…. but he showed the harmony between both passages and expounded on James’ call for us to work out our faith.

He used Ephesians 2 to show that though we are not saved by works; we are God’s workmanship, created for good works. He also referenced*Deuteronomy 10:17–20to show that God’s character is consistent with justice and righteousness…. and that God demands the same from us.

He also took time to condemn the prosperity gospel, especially phrases like “You shouldn’t give to the poor to increase” or “God hates the poor.” He strongly rebuked hypergrace teachings, emphasizing that true salvation bears fruit, and encouraged all listeners to bear fruit from the heart.

It was powerful and timely. Oh, and he also mentioned a bit about the Protestant Reformation, highlighting Martin Luther’s discovery that we are saved by faith alone.

May God continue to bless Emmanuel Iren and his ministry.
