AAP government's commitment to social welfare is often misunderstood as politics of freebies.

Ironically, this criticism usually comes from affluent individuals in India who may not fully grasp the struggles of the common man. During my recent visit to India, I was struck by the high cost of living. It's clear that a minimum wage of at least Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 per month is necessary to meet basic needs.

By increasing the basic wages in Delhi, the government can create a more sustainable social safety net.

Currently, the Delhi government's freebies serve as a vital lifeline for the poor. It's ironic that wealthy individuals in India, who enjoy luxurious lifestyles in upscale apartments, often expect poor people to survive on meager wages.

I can give a simple example from US. It is almost mandatory to pay 18%-25% tips to waiters in US. Why? They are not paid adequately by restaurant owners and hence the gap is provided in form of tips - do we call it freebies?

It is not so in Europe as the waiters are paid adequately and hence tips are not mandatory- either you increase minimum wages or pay them so called freebies.

The leadership has tried to control the narrative by buying influence or intimidating parts of the media into praising the ruling party while attacking the opposition. That’s not democracy. It’s dadagiri. Many Gen Z citizens have seen through it. One resignation is only the beginning. If the underlying issues remain unresolved, there’s likely to be much more to come.

Gen Z has figured out that the government says one thing but does another. It claims to have put perpetrators behind bars but has closed thousands of schools and spends most of its money on PR that only helps its reelection. Gen Z hates being lied to.
