Anyone who witnessed the Assembly debate yesterday would have felt that the DMK is increasingly disconnected from the ground reality.
Three former DMK ministers questioned why a higher incentive was being given only for fine-variety paddy, arguing that its cultivation was limited and that most farmers selling paddy to DPCs cultivated the common variety.
When K N Nehru said that fine-variety paddy could not be cultivated on a large scale and that the majority of farmers in the delta districts cultivated common-variety paddy, the official data presented by the Food Minister told a different story. Of the 64 lakh tonnes of paddy procured, nearly 60% was fine variety.
In fact, the bulk of this procurement took place during the DMK regime. The kharif season runs from September 1 to August 31, while the TVK government assumed office only on May 10.
If TVK MLAs or ministers lack knowledge or understanding of an issue, it may not be a serious issue given that they are relatively new to governance.
But the fact that the DMK and AIADMK, both of which have been on the ground for nearly five decades, appear to have only a limited understanding of the changing ground realities is striking.
In a Godless world, everything that starts as an nobly intended emergency exception WILL become a consumer product to serve the only God: individual choice

Ashmita Chaliha beats the top seed ✅
She gets the better of Hina Akechi in 3 games to reach the Korea Masters semifinal.
She wasted a couple of match points in the end before closing it out; that'd explain coach Park Taesang's reaction in his chair. 😅
The language we choose reflects our personality and the kind of person we are. Choose your words wisely, because over time, you become what you think, what you speak, and what you practice.
Using bad language is not cool. Abusing is not cool.
Let’s keep the definition of cool simple: being hardworking, kind, respectful towards others and yourself, striving to be successful through honesty, and making your parents and your country proud.
THAT’S COOL.
I’m speaking about this because, over the past few years, the way we perceive abusive language has changed. For many, using such words has become so normal that it’s even considered “cool.” Without realizing it, people casually use degrading and disrespectful language in everyday conversations.

In most countries, earning a PhD means writing a dissertation.
Hundreds of pages of theory, research, and citations that very few people will ever read.
China decided to try something different.
Under a law passed in 2024, select universities can now award engineering doctorates based on physical prototypes, new techniques, or major installations instead of traditional papers. The rule is straightforward: build something that works in real life and at scale, and you can graduate.
The first cohort has already finished.
Zheng Hehui earned his doctorate by designing reinforced steel blocks that snap together like Lego to form massive bridge pylons. His invention is already in use on the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge, the world's longest cable-stayed bridge.
Wei Lianfeng became the first practical PhD graduate at Harbin Institute of Technology by developing vacuum laser welding processes for the Nuclear Power Institute of China.
Another candidate built a fire-fighting system for large seaplanes.
At least 11 engineers have now earned their doctorates through this route.
Since 2022, more than 60 universities and 100 companies have collaborated, selecting over 20,000 students for practical doctorate programmes.
The goal is to close the gap between academic theory and industrial application, particularly in fields like artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
One student built a bridge. Another welded nuclear components.
And they got the same three letters as everyone else.
The US doesn't have such a program. What do you think? Good idea or not? Weigh in
