🚨Massive Update: USA bullied India over Jet Engines Hence, DRDO Decided to Build Indigenous 110 kN Fighter Jet Engine

In a major boost to India’s defence self-reliance, the DRDO, through its aero-engine lab Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), has announced plans to develop a 110 kiloNewton high-thrust turbofan fighter jet engine entirely in India.

GTRE has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) inviting ONLY Indian defence and aerospace companies to partner in the program, officially named the Advanced Aero Turbofan Combat Engine (AATCE). DRDO will retain full ownership of the technology and intellectual property, while private partners will support design, manufacturing, certification, and production.

The move comes after years of engine-related pressure and arm-twisting by the United States, where delivery delays, conditional technology transfers, and last-minute financial demands exposed India’s vulnerability. Despite signed agreements, critical fighter engines were repeatedly stalled, underlining how strategic dependence can be used as leverage.

Learning from this, India has now chosen the sovereign path, designing, owning, and manufacturing its own high-thrust jet engines. This will eliminate foreign blackmail, secure fighter induction timelines, protect operational readiness, and ensure that India’s air power is never held hostage to external political interests.

Building on progress from the Kaveri Engine Program, this initiative also reduces dependence on foreign engines like the General Electric F404.

With testing planned by 2029 and production in the early 2030s, India is sending a clear message: future Indian fighter jets will fly on Indian engines, under Indian control, on Indian terms.
