I don’t agree with an individual owning more than two residential properties. Based on what I know I have to assume The guy has obviously made some good investments over his lifetime. I also have to assume there is a reason he not willing to help. Could he just be oblivious? have you asked him for help directly? Most Boomers don’t understand the millennial economic struggle.

I’m a rifle builder and competitive shooter, also fairly well known for my stock work. I hold a national championship in team long range 1000 yard. I hope I’m not wasting my time on a bot post. This is how it actually works, from someone who does it. Shooting, not assassinations.

Re-zeroing after an optic is removed depends on how the scope is mounted to the action. On top of the action you have some kind of scope rail. The three most common are dovetail, which will not re-zero, Weaver, which can re-zero but is not the preferred method, and Picatinny. A Picatinny rail was specifically designed to return to zero if the right rings or mount are used. It also appears to be what is pictured on the alleged rifle.

On top of the rail sits whatever is holding the scope. Two piece rings can re-zero if they are designed to do so, but not all of them are. The alleged rifle appears to have two piece rings in the photos, though I cannot tell from the picture whether they are capable of returning to zero. A quality one piece mount is designed to re-zero when the optic is removed and reinstalled.

One more thing worth noting. It’s been alleged the shooter used a screwdriver to disassemble the rifle. I have to assume that means a flathead or Phillips. As a rifle builder, I have never used a flathead or Phillips screw on any of my rifles. I shoot competitively and I rely on everything being properly torqued, and that simply cannot be achieved with a flathead or Phillips driver.

I have also never seen rings or a mount designed to re-zero that used flathead or Phillips screws. I’m not saying they don’t exist, I’ve just personally never seen them.

On top of that, I would never trust an unconfirmed zero. But then again, I’m also trying to put 20 shots into a 5 inch circle at 1000 yards. The standards are a little different.
