The first ever audit of Union Govt’s flagship smart city scheme executed in Tamil Nadu has ripped apart the three state govts of 2015-23 for wide spread irregularities.

Officials misused to funds to buy cars, TV, sofas, paid contractors, staff wages and so on completely against the utility value of the scheme. Besides this, major violations have been flagged on executing unapproved projects, non-smart city projects, executing projects outside smart cities and so on. The CAG flagged saying limited tenders were floated in violation. It said 9 cities did not create smart city special purpose vehicles but its corporation commissioners acted as CEOs in conflict of interest. This is just a trailer and the 100+ page report has flagged exhausted violations.

Now: will chief minister C Joseph Vijay take this forward and take the corrupt to task? We need strong punishment.

TVK govt freezes DMK local bodies by not releasing the ward development funds. It is psychologically draining the DMK councillors, who don’t see a purpose in being councillors anymore. As a result, people’s work is obstructed. Just like MPlad, and MLA Lad, ward development funds are for councillors. Why play politics over it? The #DMK high command too doesn’t care about this as LoP Udhayanidhi Stalin or Former MAWS minister K N Nehru didn’t take this issue up in assembly though it concerns MAWS dept headed by CM. Former minister PK Sekar Babu took this issue up partially but it didn’t help. DMK councillors wage a lone battle as mayor’s letter to CM to release funds remain unanswered.
