A pause during the Pride parade in Mexico City.
At the center is Xochipilli, the Prince of Flowers. Among the Nahua, He is associated with beauty, music, dance, pleasure, creativity, and the flowering of the human spirit. For many queer Indigenous people, He has become a symbol of joy, self-expression, and belonging.
Each year, we carry Him through the Pride parade on a flower-covered palanquin to honor Him and to celebrate our community.

Tonatiuh, Our Lord the Sun, stands at the center of the solar disk, holding an incense burner in one hand and shield and arrows in the other. In the ancient codices, He is the radiant force who sustains the world through movement, sacrifice, heat, and light. The circular disk surrounding Him evokes the blazing solar presence that governs the cycles of life and time itself. One of my paintings. A design for a future bandana.
