Credit Card Reality Check
We’re launching this series to share these traps and real stories reported by our community. 🕵️♂️
Don’t let "Up to 10% Cashback" fool you. 🛑 The bold text lures you in, but the fine print holds the catch.
Banks often hide a tiny ₹250 monthly cap. 🤏 Once you hit that limit, your reward rate crashes to 0%. 📉

@Pranshu0403@Perfi_X I think HSBC has the worst internal management, I am waiting for my complaint to be resolved for 20 days, waiting for 30 days to complete before I file a complaint with the RBI Ombudsman.
Ever wonder why banks constantly slash our credit card benefits? Just look at the screenshot.
People are literally selling their complimentary domestic and international airport lounge access online for a few hundred rupees.
Banks offer these perks to reward our travel, not to fund someone's side hustle.
When users abuse the system like this, the banks bleed money. Their only fix is to impose strict fair usage policies or add massive spend-based criteria just to unlock the benefit.
So, the next time your premium card gets nerfed, remember that this kind of abuse is exactly why we can't have nice things.

If you use an ICICI Bank debit card for international trips or online shopping, heads up: a major fee hike is hitting your account on June 21, 2026.
ICICI is raising its Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee from 1% all the way up to 3.5%. That is a massive jump, and it’s specifically designed to target a classic trap a lot of people fall into.
Here is what’s happening and how to avoid it.
The Trap: "Pay in INR"
When you are swiping your card at a hotel abroad, or checking out on a global website (like Netflix, Amazon US, or booking an international airline), the payment terminal or website will often recognize your Indian card and ask:
“Would you like to be billed in US Dollars or Indian Rupees (INR)?”
It feels safe and convenient to choose INR because you see the exact amount hitting your bank account right away. That is DCC.
But it’s a massive ripoff. The merchant's local bank uses a terrible exchange rate with a hidden 4% to 7% markup. And now, on top of that bad rate, ICICI is going to slap a 3.5% fee just for processing that INR payment through a foreign network.
It applies even if you are sitting at home in India
This doesn't just affect travelers. If you buy software, apps, or subscriptions online from a company that operates in India but is registered legally in a foreign country, you will get hit with this 3.5% fee if you pay in Rupees.
*How to protect your money:*
The fix is incredibly simple but requires you to be alert:
Always choose the local currency: When a foreign POS terminal or website gives you a choice, never choose INR. Always choose the local currency of the country you are in (USD, EUR, AED, etc.).
Let your card handle the conversion: When you pay in the local foreign currency, you completely bypass the DCC trap. Your transaction will go through standard cross-border processing, which is significantly cheaper than a bad merchant exchange rate combined with ICICI's new 3.5% penalty.
Double-check your checkout screens and recurring international subscriptions before June 21!
How I squeezed ~₹8000 in value out of my new TVS Jupiter using credit card
Just picked up a new scooty and put the transaction on my Axis Atlas to farm those EDGE miles.
Here is the exact breakdown of how I secured an ~8% return on this purchase:
Spend: ₹1,00,587 swiped at TVS Showroom
MCC: It coded successfully as AUTO SERVICES, which is not an excluded category.
Base Earn: 2,010 EDGE Miles (2 miles per ₹100).
Transfer: 4,020 Accor points (using the 1:2 transfer partner ratio). I transferred it before Accord getting removed from Axis transfer partner.
Real Value: ₹8,040 in pure travel value, conservatively estimating Accor points at ₹2 each.
Pro-tip: Dealerships almost always try to slap on a 1.5% to 2% MDR fee when you bring out a credit card. Negotiate hard to get this waived or minimize before you agree on the final on-road price.
Optimizing big lifestyle spends requires holding the right portfolio.
My Experience with @TheSleepCo_ chairs
I visited a Sleep Company store today and tried both their Stylux and Onyx chairs. I didn't like either of them. Here is my experience:
1. The Onyx is better than the Stylux.
2. In its default position, the Stylux pushes you forward quite a bit, forcefully keeping you straight. I don't think I'll be able to sit in it for long, though the lumbar support was good.
3. The Onyx has fixed lumbar support, which wasn't that great.
4. The thing I disliked the most about both chairs was the lack of a tension adjustment mechanism for the backrest. If you don't lock it in the upright position, the backrest has almost no resistance, even a little pressure immediately throws you backward.
🚫 Stop ignoring fuel cards because you think you "don't drive enough."
One of the biggest money mistakes I see is people assuming they need heavy fuel spends to make a dedicated card worth it. 📉
The truth? The math often tells a totally different story. Many popular fuel cards break even much earlier than you'd expect, covering their fees and putting profit back in your pocket even with a modest commute. 💸
You don't need a 15k monthly bill for it to make sense. Stop leaving free rewards on the table. Run the numbers or check the breakdown in the image! ⛽💳

Latest data shows HDFC, SBI, ICICI, AXIS are very aggressive in card issuing while banks like Indusind and RBL are reducing cards. So the same will reflect in their approvals also.
