"...Within the wetland are miles of beaver dams, ribboning the site, with amazing habitat for amphibs and waterfowl, and fish refuge at high flows. The beaver dams also support colonnades of conifers, supporting the long term structure of the floodplain. Happy May and Stay Safe."
May is #AmericanWetlandsMonth and we'd love for everyone to share their wetland experiences here in celebration! Post pics of your favorite wetlands and tag @SWS_PNW
This pic is from our chapter president Josh:
"I’ll start with memories of last May, in wetlands along the White River in Chelan County, a large complex of beaver dams that impound groundwater springs in an expansive, shallow wetland perched a few feet above the river level..."

As a scientist I've had an "elevator speech" prepared for a few years now.
This year I made an "elevator video" & let me tell you: people enjoy seeing my research way more than just hearing about it!
So what do #beavers have to do with #wildfire? Watch (with sound) & find out!
It’s #InternationalBeaverDay!
Have a question about #beavers you’re not sure who to ask?
Ask me! I study beavers & love talking about them! And if I can’t answer your question, chances are I know someone who can and I will tag them!
Let’s share some #dam knowledge.
If you haven't seen it yet, word on the street is that the recent #WOTUS revision is bad science and bad for aquatic and #wetland ecosystems. Open access in @PNASNews https://t.co/bjatWFZbKv
In celebration of #NationalTrailsDay, we're opening the 1.9-mile Oxbow Loop only 40 minutes from Seattle🎉. Get out there and explore this low-intensity loop with views of forest stands, the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River, Oxbow Lake, and mountain peaks. https://t.co/MmPGSrko9a
@SWS_PNW member Teri Granger is presenting on @EcologyWA's efforts to train the public and local professionals on wetland stewardship and regulatory frameworks. Teri is a loongtime @SWS_org member who has been very involved in state #wetland capacity and strategic development!
Excited to present at #SWSAnnualMeeting today at 11:15 in Johnson A.
Stop by to hear about 🔥 in a West Coast brackish system, and plant and soil resilience! Collab w/ @BRobertsLab @CASchutte
