In this article, I argue that the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (#IPEF) is a weak counter to the China-led #RCEP, since the US does not offer market access to the IPEF's proposed members. The reason for this is the state of America's domestic politics

This joint statement by the G7 minus 1 (i.e. the US) + EU + Australia essentially hews closely to the Iranian line on the ceasefire. Significant that Germany, the most pro-Israel in this group, is a signatory. https://t.co/EiCX22WFJz
My latest @newlinesmag: When in office, Iran's former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad built a political persona around anti-Israel vitriol. He has looked the other way since Israel's attacks on Iran. I unpacked his silence and his June trip to Hungary

My latest @ndtv: War talk around #Iran has not only saturated the news, it has obscured the perceptions of the two peoples of each other. Just as any nation may hold grudges against an adversary, Americans are often told Iran is the band of the bad guys

@JiyoAurrJeeneDo my discomfort stems from the fact that the central point for the show was the terrorism argument when no one, not even the former ambassador, noted that Hezbollah is also a political party that holds the balance of power in Lebanon. Nuances like this would’ve enriched the debate
Very troubling that ex-govt officials are unable to see the ongoing conflict outside the prism of their own domestic political positions. Nonetheless, worth a watch to hear everyone’s perspective. Well done @BDUTT as always!
To be seen w/ Iran’s membership of the BRICS and KSA’s potential membership of it. Also, the latter’s not joining Operation “Prosperity Guardian,” the US-led response to the Houthis. The writing is pretty clear on the wall for the Biden administration, fistbump notwithstanding.
Something tells me this isn’t the “new Middle East” Netanyahu wants:
Just a day after Iran’s missile attack, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister meets with Iran’s president, declaring that Saudi Arabia wants to “permanently close the chapter on our differences.”
Not the first time that Ali Khamenei has mentioned India along with other countries or regions of concern to him. Happens every time New Delhi is seen as getting closer to Tel Aviv.
The enemies of Islam have always tried to make us indifferent with regard to our shared identity as an Islamic Ummah. We cannot consider ourselves to be Muslims if we are oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in #Myanmar, #Gaza, #India, or any other place.
“Bereavement is consciously instrumentalized as a tool of social control that feeds off institutional grief and reproduces it in a symbiotic relationship driven by religion.” brilliant as always by @KZiabari https://t.co/8GCVAJf3xJ
Comparisons between #Bangladesh and the 2011 Egyptian revolution are not accurate. I’m more interested in looking at it from the lens of youth-led movements and its parallels with Kenya, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the role of social media.
New Delhi has several options to ensure that a govt emerges in #Bangladesh that is not hostile to it, as this excellent piece by @ConstantinoX argues, but it will also need to change the narrative around Bangladeshis in its domestic politics. https://t.co/c7HwngFwXT
So far, the best discussion on #Bangladesh in the Indian media. No spoilers, but watch till the end to see why @BDUTT is still one of India’s finest journalists.
#Hasina in Delhi for "short stay" says #Modi government in first public comments since her ouster, What next for #Bangladesh - an excellent conversation with Mahfuz Anam @DailyStarNews@Meeganguly@AtaHasnain53 Mubashar Hasan & Amb Dililp Sinha. Full show https://t.co/VNH8a1PBW7
Anything otherwise won’t get broad international support, which any incoming govt will need to ensure #Bangladesh is able to ensure sustainable development, combat climate change and generate jobs for its youth.
The message to New Delhi from Washington on #Bangladesh seems to be that the US will pursue its strategic interests in South Asia even if they are at odds with India. India has also been doing the same on Russia and Iran.
Given all this, the interim govt may end up with no more than a few token Islamists to provide a veneer of inclusivity, who may be placated by other concessions such as lifting a ban on their organizational activities etc.
