A candidate, named Kulsum Bano, says, "I have come from Beawar to take the NEET exam. When I took the exam on May 3rd, I was in the same attire then as I am now: wearing a burqa and a dupatta. Initially, they said I would have to remove the dupatta to enter; then they insisted I had to remove the burqa as well. If the NTA has permitted us, these people cannot stop us... If I am to take the exam and they don't allow me in this attire, then I simply won't take it... It is shameful that they are messing with 18-year-olds like this... वैसे फैसल खान भी इतने मुसलमान तो हैं कि किसी दंगे में मारे जाएं, भीड़ की नफरत का शिकार बन जाएं या सिर्फ अपने नाम की वजह से निशाने पर आ जाएं।

दुर्भाग्य यह है कि कुछ लोग शिक्षा, समाज सेवा और युवाओं के भविष्य की बात करने के बजाय हर मुद्दे को यादव-मुसलमान और जाति-धर्म की राजनीति में बदलने पर तुले हैं। खान सर की पहचान उनके काम से होनी चाहिए, न कि उनके नाम या मजहब से।

जो व्यक्ति लाखों युवाओं का भविष्य संवार रहा है, उसकी नीयत और योगदान पर बात होनी चाहिए, उसकी पहचान पर नहीं।

Vande Mataram is an ode to a goddess. It cannot be treated on par with the national anthem. Jana Gana Mana celebrates India and its people, not a particular religion. Religion ≠ nation. The man who wrote Vande Mataram was sympathetic to the British Raj and despised Muslims. Netaji Bose, Gandhi, Nehru, and Tagore all rejected it.

The Preamble to the Constitution of India begins with “We, the People” — not “Bharat Maa”. It promises “liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship”. The very first provision of the Constitution, Article 1, describes “India, that is Bharat” as a Union of States.

In the Constituent Assembly, some members wanted the Preamble to begin in the name of a goddess; they specifically invoked Vande Mataram. Others wanted it to begin “In the name of God” and to replace “its citizens” with “her citizens”. All these amendments were defeated.

India, that is Bharat, is its people. The nation is not a goddess; it does not run in the name of a god or goddess, and it does not belong to one god or goddess.
