So I don't know if this is a big deal for tech guru's out there, but @claudeai just did something insanely helpful got me. What you may ask?

@claudeai just recovered a 13GB AI model download that failed 3 times at 99% — without downloading a single byte.

The problem: Hugging Face redirects to AWS pre-signed URLs that expire after 1 hour. XDM (a download manager) stored the expired URL and kept trying to resume with it. "Session expired." Every time.

But the data was already on disk — just split across two failed attempts in raw chunk files with no extension, named by UUID. So Claude Code:

1. Found the XDM temp folder and read the binary chunk database to decode which byte ranges each file covered

2. Mapped the full 14GB file layout — and found a 46MB gap around byte 12,459,714,984

3. Checked the second failed download — its chunks covered exactly that gap

4. Wrote a Python script to stitch all 13 chunk files together in the correct order, pulling 46MB from attempt #2 to fill the hole in attempt #1

- 44 seconds. 300 MB/s. File confirmed complete.

The download manager gave up. The data never did.

Honestly, as a disabled bed-bound man you can't remember the most parts of yesterday, I see hope! It's times like this that fighting day in, day out meaningful.
