Asked an old seafaring colleague of mine about the BS (Barnacle Situation). He looked me in the eyes with horror and told me that commercial shipping may never recover... #barnacles#barnageddon
Compliant vessels moving Russian oil is the only reason that sanctions are semi-effective.
The oil will move no matter what - do you want western insurers to clean up if there is an accident or do you want to leave it to unproven, nameless ones? @OlaFairchild
@OriginalBraila@plmlindstroem Okeanis, don’t agree with their (lack of) governance. Their support on Russian Oil transport isn’t something I would value. They’re not a better commercial team, just earning more money due to Russia business.
Herman Ljungberg, lawyer for the shipping company that owns the Eagle S:
"Actions of the Finnish authorities can be classified as hijacking.
Breaking of the cable is "a perfectly normal maritime law event that has reached too great proportions"
Ljungberg is no doubt paid by 🇷🇺
@AndersSjastad@Twaharashid The question is HOW, how can they enforce it? P&I clubs are out of the picture, flag states are out of the picture, Chinese ports allow the vessels to berth. Blocking the vessels passage would likely be seen as an act of war...
@ichbinechtglau1@ed_fin Well aware. The implication of a possible future event does not change the current status - Until something happens, nothing happens. Neither Iran nor Russia seem to care about this risk.
