A patient who was travelling in an ambulance that was reportedly halted to make way for Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy in Silchar on Wednesday died at Silchar Medical College Hospital on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Rasoraj Chakraborty. The ambulance was reportedly stopped during the Chief Minister’s visit to the city.

Following the incident, Sarma apologised to the patient’s family, calling the stoppage unacceptable. He also ordered an inquiry and directed officials to take action against those responsible.

Four police personnel deployed in the area were subsequently suspended in connection with the incident.
