Today we witnessed a beautiful display of the positive impact a teacher can have on a student. I was reminded that teachers must see students as PEOPLE FIRST, it can make a lifelong impact! Thank you Dr. Shahbazi for a wonderful year of learning! @ELLs_uwindsor @S_Shahbazi23
I was humbled when I received my gamifying learning project back this week. I realize I was misunderstanding modifications for accommodations. I hope in-person experience will help me see clearly how modifying really CHANGES expectations to meet the needs of MLLs. @ELLs_uwindsor
@MsSalvac @ValentinaESL @S_Shahbazi23 @SDLBACK@ELLs_uwindsor Yes, I definitely want to emphasize feeling comfortable and safe with anyone in the room! Thank you so much for sharing this video .. and so much laughter is awesome! :)
I'm looking for some insight on helping learners feel more comfortable in the classroom environment. Do you have any practical tips for seating arrangements to help meet the needs of MLLs in mainstream classes? @ValentinaESL @S_Shahbazi23 @MsSalvac @SDLBACK@ELLs_uwindsor#MLLs
Thank you @Larryferlazzo for sharing your insight. As a teacher candidate I have had limited experience working with parents, this blog provides some amazing resources on parent engagement and should be shared with others! @ELLs_uwindsor#MLLs#ELLchat

@ValentinaESL @S_Shahbazi23 @MsSalvac @SDLBACK@ELLs_uwindsor Yes, this definitely does provide helpful advice (especially the classroom comparison). Thank you so much for directing me to his article!
I started implementing check-ins in my practicum and I was pleasantly surprised at how well some of the less talkative students responded. These are great ways to strengthen my approach, especially for helping MLLs feel comfortable in the class. Thanks for sharing! @ELLs_uwindsor
This webinar is an excellent resource for differentiating warmup activities in the mainstream classroom. This strategy can help build linguistic skills in MLLs, but can help ALL learners succeed in the first few minutes of any lesson! @ELLs_uwindsor#MLL

Such a wonderful reminder of student centered learning. It can be so easy to get caught thinking about the 'checklist' of criteria to meet, when we really need to just focus on meeting the needs of the people right in front of us! @ELLs_uwindsor#MLL#ELL
I am learning how important it is that differentiating for MLLs is taken seriously. It should be done with purpose and intentionality...and should not be an afterthought. Valentina Gonzalez has displayed this idea beautifully. @ELLs_uwindsor
I appreciate your insight on differentiating learning using some type scaffolding. This type of instruction is so, so necessary for taking baby steps and straying from overwhelming learners with too much information at once .. AND it can benefit ALL learners!
@ELLs_uwindsor
@EFioret@ELLs_uwindsor @S_Shahbazi23 @ValentinaESL@ESL_fairy Choose images that are relevant to your students. Start slow with nouns. Make sure they know how to use the vocabulary before adding more. Start with oral language and then build the reading and writing.
English is my first & only language so I'll never know the feeling, challenge or frustrations ELL/MLLs might face in school.. but I'm learning that my job isn't necessarily to 'feel' every struggle, but to care for and support ALL learners 'in' every struggle. @ELLs_uwindsor
In education, it's important to consider the ‘digital eyes’ watching in the public. Not only is it important to be aware of the information students receive through technology, it's important we monitor our digital footprint. What does your social media say about you? #unboundeq
@bonstewart In a perfect world, students would have equitable access to dig. tools, free from judgement and social prejudices. Currently, we see a system subject to social biases. In the future, an interdisciplinary approach to dig-tech should provide more equitable online spaces. #unboundeq
@bonstewart Ruha discussed policing and tech-related tools. Something i noticed is the importance of recognizing moving money is not the solution for social issues, rather we need to understand the underlying biases that contribute to the injustices we see through technology. #unboundeq
@PapacDaniela Yes Daniela, very scary! Interesting to think there might be some teachers we really missed out on having even in our own educational experiences based on these sorts of prejudiced patterns. #unboundeq
