@TheMikeHarris @reddirtred Think of it this way... You have a wedding at a rented space. You asked someone to leave for whatever reason. They refuse to leave and are now trespassing (a crime). You can call the police to handle it: they aren't going to bill you for it.

@NewAlchemyDistl Indeed, many towers have beds that are too tall, which allows the channeling. Best to split tall packed beds and add a collection/redistribution device in between as you note. Corrugated copper sheet packing is good and has collars on each unit to divert wall liquid back in.

@NewAlchemyDistl Yea, good point: floating valves chatter rather loudly. Modern fixed valves can achieve 3:1 vapor turndown but not near what bbl caps get. Large structured packed columns are common now in the batch alcohol world. I have seen many as of late using high capacity copper packing.
