On this day in 1939, Allied cruisers Exeter, Ajax and Achilles outfight the German pocket battleship Graf Spee at the mouth of Uruguay's River Plate. The defeated vessel seeks shelter in the neutral port of Montevideo. Days later Graf Spee's captain scuttles the ship.

The Canadian Skink AA tank built on the Grizzly chassis was perhaps the best vehicle in its class. Only one prototype went into battle in early 1945, but by that point the Luftwaffe was all but extinct and the Skink had no chances to prove itself in combat. #tanks #history #WW2
